The "revenge" theme has already been wasted on Kerrigan in HotS.
I could say a lot more in response but I think the word "yep" will suffice.

I find it funny that GoT is being brought into this. As in, the most interesting aspects of GoT for me are stuff like the White Walkers, the idea of the literal song of ice and fire, Azor Azhai, the true nature of the gods/lack of them, Dany's dragons, etc. Yeah, the political stuff had its place, but it wore out its welcome by book 4, to the point where by the time Grif was brought into it, I was past caring.
As for revenge...no. Just no. Zeratul stopped caring about revenge in Dark Origin and besides, revenge was the theme of HotS. WoL's theme was redemption. If I had to assign a theme to LotV in an ideal world it would be transendance, but that's purely based on my own projection.
Given that the installments in Sc2 seem to be having a theme that revolves around a particular individual and their hang-ups, transcendence doesn't seem like a fit for Zeratul. I think vindication would be the theme for Zeratul and LotV - he's certainly been labelled a senile, old fart by most fans and, in-universe, he's not faring much better because he's the only one that knows the "truth" about this threat and has to convince his own people to help him.
Oh. Right. BlizzCon in a few days. LoTV news, I'm sure. Still can't muster any interest though. Maybe after I see something new, I'll care? Meh, why get our hopes up.
Amazing how dead this forum and the others are considering BlizzCon. I wonder if Blizzard understands just how much their community has dwindled? Probably won't notice until sales go down.
I don't know if he ever cared about revenge necessarily, but certainly dealing with the fallout of being forced to kill Raszagal was something I'd say most people were interested in seeing in some respect in StarCraft 2.
Instead it wound up in a tie-in novel and is now 'resolved'. Which means if they try to address it again, it'll be sloppy and ignoring it will just be unsatisfying.

We're shown Artanis with a green blade (Zeratul's, probably) and most of the interviews have been talking about 'Seven Samurai' type last stands of the protoss. Then, of course, Zeratul's ominous 'My life for Aiur' at the end of the LOTV trailer. Seems pretty clear to me that Zeratul's gonna bite the dust in this one.
I guess it makes sense now why Artanis is the main character for this expansion. He'd be the one to be pushed to action by Zeratul's death.
I concur with Triceron....Zeratul is no stranger to sacrifice, witnessing Tassadar do the same kind of act to save their people and taking great pains himself to seek out the truth of the Xel'naga or kill Razagal for her sake and at the expense of his pride and sense of honor.
How do you guys think they're going to end it, and allow for a Starcraft 3?
amon is vanquished....kerrigan dies (but before she does has another heart to heart with raynor), and the zerg are left free to do their own thing of eating eachother for essence and evolve.
There is still the UED, and fueds between the terran factions and I'm sure that pesky dark archon is going to cause more mischief for the protoss

Too meh of an ending.
That being said, it's not like the HotS ending was that great either.
What SHOULD have happened, instead of the space scene as the swarm left Korhal, should have been like this:
We cut to a system beyond the Korpulu Sector. All we see are silouettes of planets. Suddenly, a psionic burst of energy engulfs each of them. Amon's voice is heard, "Arise, my legions...."
After that, millions of hybrids awaken and begin departing those planets. As the first of them reach the Korpulu Sector, the screen fades to black.
The caption "THE END BEGINS" is shown, and the credits roll.
We're likely going to be seeing that, so stop whining about heart of the swarm.
And I'm not so sure how amon is going to be* vanquished...and its an intriguing question how the protoss are going to live without the khala; im sure as hell no all of them are going to go "dark templar"

These are my predictions:Quote:
How do you guys think they're going to end it, and allow for a Starcraft 3?
0.) Zeratul dies by means of winged fairy.
1.) Kerrigan and Artanis merge into the first of a new generation of Xel'Naga. Leading a legion of other newborn Xel'Naga, they defeat Amon, sending the remaining Hybrids into disarray.
2.) Raynor is mortally wounded, forcing Kerrigan to save him by means of infestation. As the dust settles and Amon is defeated, Jim Raynor, the new King of Blades, takes the Swarm far, far away, watching over humanity as a distant guardian.
3.) Several Brood Mothers defy Raynor and abscond into the recesses of space with their own broods and agendas.
4.) "Rohana means family."
5.) Those Protoss corrupted by Amon are freed, but are left reeling in disarray. Vorazun steps in to lead the Daelaam. The Dark Templar now outnumber the Khalai and are the dominant faction among Protoss society. Vorazun declares there are no longer any tribes, there is only ONE Tribe -- the Tribe of Protoss.
Without Amon or Ulrezaj, the Tal'Darim are shattered; a scant few linger as holdouts, but their power is forever broken.
6.) For the first time in history, all Terran powers in the Koprulu Sector willingly unite under the leadership of Valerian Mengsk.
7.) The UED wants a piece of that sweet Koprulu ass.
When Amon gets defeated, an even bigger bad, ancient race that is older than the Xel'Naga make themselves known and says that Amon was just a pawn in their plans. And then, "here we go again...". If any of the main Sc characters die, they'll appear as force ghosts to help the next generation defeat this new threat. Oh, and the three races will probably find reasons to start fighting each other again now that there is no single threat against them all as well.
Starcraft 3 isn't going to happen. LotV might as well be Blizzard's farewell to the RTS genre. Where Starcraft goes from there is basically what's popular in the video game landscape. Hey look, they like Valve's IP's, why not make a Counter-Strike Starcraft game? The Terrorists can be the Dominion/Sons of Korhal while the Counter-Terrorists can be the Confederacy!
Blizzard's new IP fills that gametype actually....I'm still betting on a 3rd person shooter/mmo
I knew they had a shooter in development, but it was whatever game Mike Booth is directing because his history is Counter Strike and Left 4 Dead. So now I'm assuming they have another shooter in development alongside Overwatch. Perhaps, maybe

Ok, let's address these points here:
Point 0: I'm expecting his death similar to that of Tassadar's or something.
Point 1: Complete BS. The corrupted Zerg cannot merge with the Protoss to form the new Xel'Naga because Amon's corruption prevents this. Kerrigan might have been remade down to the DNA, but she's not PURELY primal Zerg. She's just a primal Zerg/terran hybrid, that is all.
Point 2: Raynor's death wouldn't be anything surprising. If he dies however, I hope that he does so knowing his actions made a difference, and in a good way.
Point 3: Not likely, unless Kerrigan gives them specific orders to follow Raynor's commands as if they're her own.
Point 4: I'm not sure where you're going with this.
Point 5: I'm still hoping the Tal'darim can reintegrate to Protoss society.
Point 6: When pigs fly. Even after WoL and HotS, it's still hard to say if Valerian will turn good or evil. Most likely the former, but it's still vague.
Point 7: That'll be SC3, which'll come out in 500 years from now.

Hence why I hope for the Voice in the Darkness to appear. After all, the Xel'Naga never killed him....
I'm not saying my predictions are good storytelling, I'm simply going by Blizzard's track record.
It's a joke. Rohana is the preserver that joins us in LotV from the vaults of the Spear of Adun...Quote:

^ Hey hey, that sounds familiar! :p
That would be nice, but unfortunately she's still stuck in a crystal alongside Ulrezaj. :\
Blizzard said they were not planning on bringing characters from the DT saga during the campaign panel.
Is anyone else sad that Starcraft Ghost never came out? That had the makings of a fun game, it looked like.
My predictions:
- Amon dies
- Zeratul dies
- Raynor dies
- Kerrigan is de-infested, living on in painful memories of everything that happened.
- Valerian Mengsk dies.
Well, technically that last one isn't so much a prediction as a wish. I hate the rat.
Yeah but what can close can also open. You really think the Protoss can't figure out how to transfer Zamara's spirit into another Khaydarin Crystal or something?

Letting Kerrigan live is fine, but it's better in her primal transformation state, so she'll have to live on knowing what she lost with Raynor. Raynor needs to live a bit longer until better terran heroes are introduced. Valerian's death is fine if he remains too ambiguous. Zeratul's death works, but only if he passes his teachings to someone else first.
Watched a video somewhere where they thought the Mothership Core was being controlled by a female-oriented artificial intelligence. It would be neat if Zamara was retained in LotV and presented as a digital intelligence like that. But I'm guessing there's some proprietary shit going on that prevents Dark Templar Trilogy-only characters from being used. Sigh.Quote:

With an overly dramatic long kiss goodbye, or something similiar, to be sure.Quote:

Like I said months ago, just look at the Warcraft franchise without Arthas. It's unquestionably weaker without him. There's no way they'd let Kerrigan die. The way I see it, she's the key to making a Starcraft spinoff possible. Kerrigan gets deinfested, wants to repay her debt to humanity, so she travels to the Solar System where she forms an offensive against the UED. I think Blizzard's done with MMO's and RTS's, so that Starcraft game would be another shooter or something.
I should add an anecdote here; Starcraft 2 ending with Earth as a destination is quite fitting seeing as this whole series has Battlestar Galactica vibes all over it.
Niko, while I would ordinarily agree with you in Kerrigan's significance in the franchise, my doubt for Blizzard is greater.
To me, the entirety of Starcraft was about (1) Raynor, (2) Kerrigan, and (3) Mengsk. Raynor is the first major character we meet, and given that he appears in every mission set in SC and BW, he's our main character for the whole shebang.
Kerrigan, with her friendship with Raynor and presence in all but one of the mission sets (SC Protoss), is definitely number 2. While of course HoTS has changed this, she was the side character who provided Raynor with his motivations. He left Mengsk because of her, went to Char because of her, and gave up on everything and went with Tassadar because he ultimately failed to save her.
Mengsk I put up there because he's the reason why Kerrigan becomes a Zerg, and also the primary reason why she tears up the Sector in BW. It's hard to accept that Blizzard thinks "his story has been told" -- no it hasn't. The fact that Kerrigan left him alive at the end of BW proves that he has plot relevance, at least as long as Kerrigan is around.
Eh, that was ranty. In any case, it's never good for the plot to focus too much on Kerrigan, or we'll get HoTS-style storytelling. In SCII she became the reason why Raynor decided it was worth sacrificing his men to save her, and she's why they turned HoTS into a soap opera in space.
Doubt it personally. Arthas is undoubtedly one of the strongest villains in Warcraft, but as someone whose followed WoW, I've never felt the setting was made weaker without him per se.Quote:

And, er, guess what. His story ends in HotS. Ends the way I more or less expected it to.Quote:

Or he can perhaps live on, watching other people take over his empire while he is either exiled or sent to prison. Letting Mengsk die as a part of a romance novel climax is awful. Just plain awful.
I hope the games don't go to Earth. It's nice to have a story where our home planet isn't a focus or in danger.
I've become confused about the scenes we see in the trailer, and the campaign preview panel. While Artanis has two Psi Blades while aboard the Spear of Adun, he wield a Warp Blade in all cutscenes from the trailer, including right before the offensive on Aiur when he's giving his rallying speech.
Also, I'm just going to go ahead and be an ass and argue my theory about Kerrigan and Artanis merging a little bit more:

Exactly! And I want it to stay that way.Quote:

Khas, I thought your whole things with Kerri/Artie merging was a joke...well, that's my hurl for the day. I "look forward to" banging my head against a wall when I find out what that's all about.
Hahahaha! Thanks for that! But yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the way things are leaning for the story, be it good storytelling or bad.Quote:

What I'm annoyed about most is the utter lack of diversity in Protoss. At least in WoL their portraits retained a hint of difference in skin pigmentation, but now they're all blue space elves.
