I always hated how it took place exactly in 2500. Specific, even dates like that in fiction are so lame, when there's no actual reason for it. If it had been something more random like, I dunno, August 17 2633, it'd be so less contrived.

Oh come on guys, You're better than that. We all know that ancient prophecies always coincide with convenient dates according to the Gregorian calendars, based around the death of Christ, no matter where they take place in the universe. Can't tell you how many ancient evils have awoken at exactly the moment that the year changes to 1,000 or 2,000 or whatever.
If it weren't the case before, previous lore will be retconed so Amon finally gets his shit together at exactly 2,500 AD, you know, since its so tied to prophecy and all.
Right, like they were thinking of the prophecy THAT early back then....
