gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
gearvOsh, the admin of sc2armoy, just got hired by Blizzard as a Web Scripting Engineer. Say what you want about his piss poor attitude, but the kid's got talent in the field.

That's at least two community players that just got hired by Blizzard in the last week. And it could mean less competition for this site if sc2armory goes down. Or possible more fierce competition as that one remains intact with an inside connection.

Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
gearv0sh? Really? Wow. Congratulation to him I suppose.
-
Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
How curious: now Blizzard is hiring fans...how much pride would be to be hired liek him.
-
Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
Hey guess what? I just got hired as SC2GDF's official forum moderator!
MUAHAHAHAHAAA!!!
lol, j/k

Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
Dammit. I should start making Blizzard related stuff. But gearv0sh’s web skills are quite good.

Same. I don't know much programming though and I'm just decent at drawing stuff so I don't really know what I could do. The only thing they could possibly need me for is traduction. My french and spanish are better than my english but then again I don't have any diploma stating that I can translate something and they probably have all the people they need in this field anyways.

Yeah this is awesome for him! He mentioned elsewhere that he does plan on continuing to update the site. However, the customary response would be for him to bow out of the fan biz. XG3 left SC:L when he joined the web team several years ago and Mr. Jack has left SC-Source. Similarly, it'll be interesting if Blizz allows him to continue run the site despite him being privy to inside info. I'll be watching with great interest.

Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
He has been actively pursuing a job at Blizzard for some time and he has talent so I'm not surprised.

Do I smell fear? I'm sure that Blizzard will make him shut down or hand the reigns over to someone else though.
-
Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
He needs to shut down SC2Armory because of his contractual reasons (I’m sure you can’t be running a Blizzard fansite if you work for Blizzard)
Thus all the community members will come here! muahahahahaha.

Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
I like the small community we have hear. It's just so stable...
More people, and my agoraphobia might kick in.

Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
Wow!! Congrats to him!!!

As long as he has the time, and don't publishes something he shouldn't, i don't see the problem.

Yeah I could see them not letting him continue.

Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
Maybe they'll just make him leave his site. I don't see that shutting Armory down unless it's a one-man operation.
-
Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
Well currently the Armory is a one man operation, there are some moderators, but Gear is the only admin there and he does everything alone, well if he has to abandon the armory i don't think the armory will exist after that, since nobody knows how to work with the code he has done, since it is custom and he made the site code from scratch, he is a really skilled program coder, and also has about 4-6 different sites that he made from scratch, and he also makes codes on demand for other sites and customers.
Well we will see how it goes.

Remember back when we got a fresh batch of Zerg screenshots and we got our first look at the Zerg Overlord and the ice tileset?
One fansite posted the screenshots just a few minutes or something before the embargo date. I can't remember which one it was, but wasn't it the armory? :P

Re: gearvOsh hired by Blizzard web team
I don't see why SC2A going down would reduce the amount of competition we receive.

It's just PHP code. I know of at least 3 people associated with this site alone fully capable of adopting and managing the site after some basic examinations. Not that I'm proposing that a solution, I'm just saying that juggling programmers happens all the time in our field, and can easily be handled by anybody with a knack for the language and semantics.
The creative component is the challenging part since that's not something you can teach others but rather is an innate talent.
But still, I'm pretty sure Blizzard has always mandated those employed by Blizzard cannot be affiliated with a fansite. That's been the case for at least 10 years now.

If sc2armory goes down, you will be more pressed to build a unit database :D.

I'd bet money that would be gearv0sh's first project: A unit DB for the new SC2 website.
