New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP

Re: New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP
I'll take any SC2 I can get, especially the HD kind, but this just reminds me how much I hate watching macro players play.
Sticking to his screen as he flips from building to building while a battle is going on is like watching a coach contemplate the next play's strategies while the current one is going on somewhere in the background.
Yeah, it's important, and it takes skill, but I wanna be looking at the god damned explosions.

Not only that, but you're neglecting the micro required during that fight. If I ever look back at my base while a fight is going on, I feel like I already lost the game. Because honestly, you don't know what is going on.

That is the case in WC3 and maybe in SC2 but in SC1 if you are microing your units, while your opponent is macroing, you lost already...

Well... considering he is playing SC2... might be smarter to not play like hes playing sc1...
Artosis was pretty sucky in that game :-/... But hes more of a commentator now isnt he?

Well its new game, what did you expect? To be good as in SC1? :D And btw first they will try everything they did in SC1 and then will try new strategies, also I blame Proton Charge for mass of those Saviors units... He almost had Stalkers and Immortals as many as Artosis had Marines and Marauders...
And yeah he is commenting more nowadays.

Re: New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP
If I were a pro at SC I wouldn't want to play it like I normally do, but slow down to look at what the game is like.
-
Re: New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP
Artosis is very good lol, hes obviously just messing around

If you were a pro at SC, you'd be playing SC.

huh guys you can't concentrate on only one. You're supposed to do both at the same time. Granted, macro is more important than micro but macro is worth nothing if you're just doing 1a2a3a4a because my siege tanks on ramp and well placed mine field will be waiting :D

There's a difference between playing a sport and watching it. While a player's eye camera is sometimes enlightening, it generally more entertaining when watching games to have a more neutral perspective.
-
Re: New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP
It's debatable if macro is more important than micro. Especially in SC2. It depends on dozens of game-specific factors.

Also depends on what your calling important. But yah its both.
If you dont make workers you are going to die. If you never order your units to do anything you are going to die.

Sigh, it's an FPVOD, what did you expect? O_o
What was OverSky supposed to do? Tell Artosis to "wait a while and show the battle for a moment because some people want to see the explosions"?
-
Re: New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP
Artosis took several games off of Savior in SC2, so let's not read too much into one game

Well yeah, Like I said, its SC2 where pros will try old SC1 Strategies.
Like in Who vs Shy game, where you all called Who a "noob" cause his build order was strange and kept massing Stalker vs mass Marauders, but you also Forgot that it was 2-1 for Who in the end.
Guys there is a game 2, you can find the link at page 1.

1. It's not very reasonable to criticize Nicol for something that he didn't start. If you're going to go after someone, why not any of the ten that said it first?
2. The point repeated a few times in this thread is that it is not as entertaining to watch macro-intensive players play. Is that contention really something you want to argue?

ROFL!
He's still individually setting buildings to his hotkeys... What a noob!

In a way its just so evident how incapable "pro" koreans are to pick up a new game. It largely has to do with the fact they just memorize SC. Yeah they're skilled, but they practice a lot, case closed.
But seriously, I'm no where near pro. But I can honestly pick up a game and within 1/2 hours have a good feel on what to build and what to do. When I see these Koreans, its just pathetic to see how "lost" they seem while playing. Now before you all go off on a "Korean defense" rant, just don't please. Because my point is being that they played so much SC and only SC, playing a new game is completely alien to them and they look like complete noobs.
Peace.
-
Re: New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP
Yes, because playing a completely new game doesn't have anything to do with the fact that they look like noobs. You're brilliant.

Um, Artosis is not Korean. At least, I'm fairly sure he's not.

Um, so? You have better powers of adaptation because you never really learn any game very well to begin with. It's much harder to change, particularly to something that isn't that different from what you know, when you've been doing it daily for 6-10 years.
I don't see what this has to do with anyone being Korean to begin with.
Also, while you would be able to adapt quicker to SC2's changes, they still overwhelm you in APM, micro, and macro. Even individually selecting High Templar, they'll still rain more storm down on you than you can fire back.
And feel free to replace "you" with "me" in the above.

He really should be hotkeying his production buildings together, as there is no reward from doing them separate anymore, at least not with the way MBS works now.
I haven't even played the game once, so, its pretty absurd of me to call him a noob and be serious.

lol, I would like to see a FPVOD of you playing 30minutes after you start.

Probably because you can read English and the vast majority of them can't.
Just my $0.02.

Hmm, it would be impractical for him to unlearn the SC habits for a bunch of SC2 games, given he's coming back to SC immediately after BlizzCon finishes; probably hard too, seeing as he had rather little playtime with SC2. ;]

Yeah but there are many narrow-minded people here that will do that, call Korean pro a noob, or whoever, just cause he played the game first time. Sorry, I misunderstood you.
And btw you can see that from Nottoway's post. :D

While I agree that many of them are like this, there have been a many who have been known to understand the game itself and not just understand the mainstream strategies. The most obvious example being Boxer. While I think a majority of Koreans will have an advantage by sure mental training (It's not just muscle movements when exercise APM at pro level, it's the ability to train your mind on multitasking) I think those who have proven in the past to take the game to new heights will have a chance to shine again... or for some of these Koreans to reach their full potential.

You have to admit that when they do show their screens in Korean tournaments, the lightning speed at which they're playing is in it of itself exciting to watch.

No, I don't, and no, it isn't. I want to watch the game. Seeing the start of a battle, then watching as the player goes back to macro for 3 seconds while you know something interesting is happening in that fight is of no spectator value.

Well, I like seeing into the mind of each player. The majority of screen time is micro anyway. But I suppose the novelty's lost on you.
-
Re: New SC2 Video by OverSky! TvP
I'll admit that both have their place. The "game" should always take priority I agree. But in "downtimes" i appreciate a little first person perspective for variety if there is a good 5-8 seconds of nothing happening.
I relate it to football.... I don't like seeing two groups in a huddle, but I appreciate some examination/replays between the plays when the game isn't in action.

Watching first person perspective of Korean pros makes me want to toss my cookies.

Yeah, no doubt it's dizzying. And frustrating too. Naturally I want to see the battle taking place, and as a player would want to be focused on that so I can hope to have some degree of outcome on it. Seeing a high-level player from their own perspective is interesting though. The way they just toss units into the fire with little regard to their performance is an interesting take on playing the game...especially now that units automatically engage hostiles when following a rally.
Thankfully we'll have observer mode for watching these games the way we want to watch them.
