I sincerely hope they do redo a few of the buildings and Units from WOL, but from what I'm hearing they have absolutely no plans to do anything of the sort.
We can hope for LOTV since they aren't adding anything new.

Most likely. That's what I was also thinking...
As for the original SCBW models GnaReffotsirk made, they are available on sc2mapster.com, in the assets section. You can go look for them, they're up for download.
I read on one of the artist's DeviantArt page, where he put up pictures of the game's unit, hero and building models, alongside a short description and story of how they each came to be, that he is already planning on making a Super-Carrier model based on the SC1 Carrier as a hero unit in the campaign in LotV, and to re-do a few of the models, such as the Dark Templar (and some Zerg units and structures), which are older and less detailed than Zeratul. (look at the blade, as an example)
Yeah i think that post was made by me.
Phill Gonzo's been saying there's a truck load of new models. The great thing about this is that most of WOL's development timeline was to nail down an art style. Most of those buildings that we saw were kind of semi-nailed down from 2007 but didn't change for 2 years as the art style changed about 4-5 times and they need to be redone.
Now they have nailed down what they want, can you imagine the sheer quantity of artwork they can push out now? They no longer have to worry about what zerg should or could look like or worry what Terran should look like, it's pretty much defined. All they have to do is make artwork that is similar to or superior to that original artwork.
Really can't wait for what's coming.
Although I still think Blizzard needs to fire their sound department and laid down something that's actually good. Blizzard's sound department only knows one level of sound, medium to high. And they only know that explosions should be loud, and other things should be soft.
You look at hawken, explosions don't even have to have that loudness, a low thump gives you much more feeling than a loud explosive sound. Oh well, I doubt they will be changing much of the sound scape around but seirously I don't want to hear cheese smeared chicken skin when I'm listening to new Zerg sounds. They need to use some more iconic nature sounds like roars and stuff.
I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying about the art. I've been creeping Phill's DA recently, hoping for any little tidbit of information, and was very happy to read that.
I have to disagree about their sound department though. I'm quite positive, after seeing the Bonus videos about their sound and music team, that most of those guys have been on since StarCraft I. I hope that they'll change the soundscape around as well, but I disagree on it being unlikely. I don't think it's a for sure thing, but if they're willing to change the art for the expansions then the sound should be just as possible.
The sound department (in terms of music) is a few of their original composers. The sound effects department is run by the assistance sound designer for WoW.
Knowing that Mr. Jack is in there with Blizzard makes me feel hopeful about whats to come for the Zerg in HOTS.
Nope, The original composers for Starcraft 1 are still there, I dunno why they made a much worse soundtrack in some parts but I'm guessing they simply had way more work this time and much less time to compose just soundtracks (Starcraft 2 has ten times more soundtracks than starcraft 1)
The sound design however, the guy probably is heading up the next big Blizzard project and has left Starcraft 2 to his minions, namely his assistant.
The new music is alright but not as good as original.
vs
Even the original ambient Zerg music is ridiculously amazing. Even better than Homeworld music in some parts:
I agree that the first game's music was great. I still think the second one's was comparably good as well.
They're just differences in music genre, Wankey. You just happen to like techno-synth (or whatever the SC1's one is classified as) over the more rhythmic sound of SC2's.
While the Starcraft soundtrack was indeed iconic, Starcraft 2 has pretty good tracks. I enjoy listening to them alot.
I'll be glad when the rest of mankind evolves the ability to discern the difference between quality and nostalgia.
*Old man voice*
"Back in my day..."
Good luck with that... ;)
From what I hope is a fairly objective point of view I do think that the Zerg music in SC 2 is inferior, it's a bit muddy and incoherent at times, and not as agressive as the original Zerg soundtrack. The Terran music is just as good as in the first one and the Protoss is good considering how much worse it could've been (still doesn't quite reach the power and sadness of the original Protoss themes though).
The only problem / difference from Sc1 music is that Sc2 music "repeats" itself.
That sounds great! yeah, it's noticeable how everyone seems to love the old carrier, so, this is really expected I think.
yeah, it would be great if they also improved some sounds... for example how about the goliath? it sounded way better in SC1. And I'm talking about the voice more than any other thing.

Teal carrier on the top left is the Gantrithor. :P
I think it would be badass if there were only a few supercarriers, like 12. Kind of how there were only 12 battlestars in BSG. Then after the invasion there are basically none left.
We've got:
Gantrithor
Qel'Ha
Xa'lor
What are some other good carrier names? :p
These are great, however I seriously want Blizzard to make something like this, that would be absolutely awesome.
