Karune is back on Official forum
Hey I dunno if anyone cares but I thought it might be a good source of NEW official information from Karune if we asked him some questions:
"BlizzCon has us all pretty busy over here, but there is definitely time for questions. We have lots to show you guys at BlizzCon! Should be lots of fun."
from:
http://forums.battle.net/thread.html...19006&sid=3000
That's a little chat I had with him =P
if you look at the other threads that hes talked in it would seem they are updating the art just in time for Blizzcon and possibly for a better impression for Beta? Who knows but it's good to have some official words and new information again!

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Hehe, Zealot new art, wonderful news!
-Psi
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Yeah I thought so too, although I didn't entirely mind how it was before, I guess the graphics of it were a little 2007 =P I can't wait to see how it's all going to look at Blizzcon!!
Oh and is there a forum I should post on for people wanting to know who's going to Blizzcon? Because I am DEFINITELY going =D

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Ooh Zealot got art ugprade!?!?!? okay, I'm calling it.
Carrier, Phoenix, Mothership all have their art upgraded. The Void Ray also has its art updated, this time without the spinning thing. Thor I believe has been completely redone to fit its role much better. Roach model has been tweak along with the Lurker. High Templar model definitely has be remodelled.
That's it.
Carrier, Voidray, Mothership and High Templar have been remodelled. Phoenix, Roach, Lurker have been touched up. Lets see how many I get right.

Really? I didn't mind the Phoenix art, in fact a lot of the Protoss stuff I don't really mind. They could do a better job on the Stalker though, and maybe the observer.. And yes the Void Ray cause use an update, same with the Phase Prism..
Edit: yes for sure High Templar

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
The fact that Zealot art, something I actually didn't find any problems with even since the original debut, is being replaced gives me lots of hopes at the units which actually look bad.
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
That's true, I'm very excited to see how it's going to look and then again when it finally gets released.. lol..
Are you going to Blizzcon Wankey?

I feel the contrary. Why are they wasting time remodeling units that everyone likes? Its stupid.
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Even more interesting:
"On a side note, going along with the Galaxy Map Editor can do anything trend, I hear it may even be able to create a first person shooter style custom game :) Anyone miss those StarCraft paintball games? Our devs internally have already tried out some pretty clever side projects that have been quite successful."
Now, I couldn't be more excited about the Editor (and they have renamed it from SCUMEdit to Galaxy too).

Because right now, it's hard to comprehend till you see it, but when they remodel them your going to like them 10 times more than you did before! =D

Because they don't like them?
Map editor can now make First Person Shooters, no word on whether it can make maps.

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
the only unit which would need a urgent rework is the lurker imo ... way too little hydralisky parts on that giant 5 legged spider

Because they do not remodel things on the whims of everyone. They remodel the things that they think need it.

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Well then I think its fair to say Blizzard has bad taste.
:p

I don't agree, I have liked most of the models and desicions Blizzard has made so far and like most likely (98% change) will continue to support Blizzard =D
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Well it's a good thing that changes are going at good direction

Then tell me what they should be doing? Your idea of standards is below Blizzard and I hope they never listen to you.

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
They should be pumping more resources into getting battle.net working, obviously. Instead of doing art passes on units that may not even exist after beta is played for awhile, those artists should be focused on making the b.net interface more streamlined.
Normally, I have supported blizzard's priorities. This time, I do not. They didn't remodel the Zealot again because it looked bad. They did it because they're bored waiting for b.net.

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Or it could be that they have 2 teams , one for SC2 and one for battlenet, i don't thit that they pulled SC2 modelers and artists away from sc2 to write code for the new battlenet :p
And i don't hink that they have decidet to remodel only the zealot, they have probaly decidet to improve all of the Protoss , now that they have finally finished the new designs for the zerg.
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
interesting that the sc2 editor has the potential to make an fps... now i wonder if you could somehow combine such potential with its rts gameplay...

Indeed, the art department can't be expected to sit idle while Battle.net is being worked out.

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Is there somewhere we can see this new Zealot? - holding off on an opinion until I see, and we already have so little to talk about. :)
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
maybe while they're doing the new zealot art, they'll go ahead and rework the zerg completely. Maybe add a few new units. just a thought :)

First place you will be able to see it is Blizzcon ;] that's why I can't wait.
UNLESS fan sites have their hands on some juicy art screenshots and other delicious info and it will all be revealed on the 17th? Can anyone confirm the NDA is still dropping then?

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Stop bashing DS, honestly the zealot was fine and he is right. Most of the protoss were fine. What they need to do is look at tose freaking ugly terrans. Remodel the THORRRR, everyone as been asking for it since the day it came out. Then of course, the marauders, the hellion and might as well touch up the viking a bit. Make my Terrans look good please :(

I agree that all possible efforts should be focused on B.Net, but I doubt the art team is capable of helping. As others have said, the art team either sits around doing nothing or continues to make small improvements.

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Umm guys, since when is "Fine" good enough for starcraft 2? The art is either great or it needs to be redone. Where the fuck did this "Fine" is ok come from?
As well the Art team doesnt work on battle.net, thats why its called the art team, because it works on the art.

That sounds pretty logical, I just hope Bnet is at least ready for the multiplayer aspect to start beta "soon" (just after Blizzcon).

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
I think the main art thing I want to see at this point is all the unit portraits.
There are still a lot missing.

Artists. You want artists, people who usually have the programming skills of retarded Chimpanzees, to help improve Battle.Net, a task that is primarily done through programming?
I can understand if you want Blizzard to put more money and new hiring into that task (of course, that assumes that this isn't happening already). But you're suggesting that
Now, even if you're saying that the artists should be working on art assets for the B.Net interface, that makes no sense. The artists who work on models and textures do not do UI stuff; that's 2D drawings. Further, no game UI outside of a TBS game needs more than 1 artist, and even that's part time. I seriously doubt that final UI art assets are holding up B.Net.

Because the models aren't ready yet, and the modelling team was idle?

The ignorance of overall wrongness of your post makes me sad.

The fact that you couldn't mention what was actually wrong in it proves that you're full of crap.

Re: Karune is back on Official forum
I called 3rd person! looking forward to that being a huge part of the game
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Third person shooters are going to kick ass.
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
"several units got updates to their art, including the Zealot."
others.. marine, scv ,probe,drone.
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Marine is already final. They've worked too hard on it to suddenly change it around now. Probe probably, drone is done and so is SCV.
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
Please give us a re-imagined Thor and Carrier.
-
Re: Karune is back on Official forum
I know wankey...I want to say, frustration is waiting for us again.
I don't care marine,drone,probe...
