Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
Basically, it's a system that would allow map makers in the SC2 community to submit their personal maps for a review by Blizzard map developers and for a chance to be added to a Blizzard map database filled with official ladder, general melee, and special custom maps. When submitting a map, one would fill out some basic information about themselves (name, email, etc.) and about their map (name, type, size, #players, etc.).
After that, it would be up to Blizzard to test the maps and see if they are worthy enough to become official Blizzard maps. Map makers whose maps make it would be rewarded with having their map used by players all over the world and quite possibly even in the official ladder or even pro scene. Naturally, their names would be tacked onto their maps for recognition.
Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?
Re: Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
Er... didn't they already have this in both SC and WC3?
Isn't that what the Map Making Program is?

Yes, they did -- but, since we'll have this new BNet2.0 and all, I'd figured that it'd be nice to discuss it for the sake of...in a way...making sure it happens :)
Re: Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
How about, instead of being reviewed by Blizzard themselves, it's reviewed by otehr players. They can play teh map directly if they choose, and then recommend it if they like it. And to become official, it needs x recommendations, and maybe x recs from a higher ladder player or mod, to keep it rubbish free.
Re: Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
I hate how you post the same thing on different forums. Also, I think polls are pretty useless in a "discussion" thread like this.
Finally, yup I sure hope blizzard does this, and I'm sure they will since it already existed in their previous RTS games...
The only way they wouldn't do that is if they had an awesome team of map makers, so in any case it's all good imo :).
Re: Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
A map ranking would be good. I think a system like this could work: every time you play a map, it gets +1 point on "times used". Then, you can vote on the map. If you like it, you can vote +1, 0, or -1 for the map "score". You can change your vote at any time, but doesn't accumulate (so, every player can approve, dissaprove, or remain neutral about a map, which modifies the map "score" by +1, 0, or -1).
A list could be available somewhere in the BN site, in game, etc, that shows all the used maps, their thumbnails (and even bigger images), and you can sort by "times used", "score", change your vote, search by map name, number of players, map size, etc.
Collecting additional information every time a map is played cannot hurt, either. Like: times played by race, "score" given by each race, average game durations, per-race win ratios, etc.
Each map could be linked to a forum post, also.
Different versions of the same map could be linked, also.
Re: Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
i got an idea
why dont we boycott all the topid/thread starting which contain titles like :
lets learn counters, and i got an idea for a map and so on until we get beta. playing imaginary league for 2.5 years if enough i think.
just my 2 cents.
Re: Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
Helluvan idea. It's be great if Blizz encouraged people to dream up fresh maps to keep into the rotation. I'd also like it if they established a map contest during the beta when the map maker becomes available, with the top 5 best user-submitted maps making it into retail with credits to the author.
The map of the week/month program for SC1 was enjoyable too, and I hope they carry on that tradition.
Re: Idea -- Blizzard map submission system
Bliz used to have map making contest in wc3. So this is good idea :).

It is absolutely necessary for Starcraft 2's success that the Korean Map Makers not be excluded from making maps for competitive play.
