Well, I currently hear to "Mana" a latin style band and "Mago de Oz" Celtic music from Spain. Metalica and others as well.

Though I also love some derivant of hardstyle and electronic music such as Showtech and Daft Punk

Indeed, Pink Floyd is truly amazing- each member of the band brings something unique to their sound- but as a guitarist I love Gilmour’s playing style. His phrasing, his tone, the way he bends a note more than a whole tone to create that atmospheric wail. His solo on Comfortably Numb just melts my heart. One of my all time favourite solos. :p

I encourage you to save that money up and raid those music stores- you won’t be disappointed. ;)

Milo, I like the genre description for Trancelike Void - "Depressive Suicidal Black Metal." :p

Depressive sounds about right... suicidal is a bit strong.

Heh. I'm currently listening to Replica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz4tdfqEsBM) from Solid State Society which is a song from the Ghost in the Shell series for those of you that don't know. I mainly listen to techno and Ghost in the Shell music. Although I used to listen to metal, rock etc in addition to the previously mentioned music.

And now I am listening to Torukia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0ow4tGgZWk) from the Ghost in the Shell OST. It has swiftly become my favourite Ghost in the Shell song, even more so than Inner Universe which has become a long time favourite. Music producer Jun Seba, known as Nujabes, passed away in late February. His label announced the sad news today.
Late nite February 26, the 36-year-old Nujabes was in a car accident in Tokyo. Efforts to revive him proved futile.

Nujabes was known for his cutting edge hip-hop — such as the soundtrack work he did for anime Samurai Champloo. The series got its own original PS2 game, Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked. The title was developed by Bandai and Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio behind the No More Heroes games. from Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5497066/samurai-champloo-music-producer-is-dead) theres some more of his songs there.

Some really good taste in this topic! I'm going to say that I think I love everything Arsedestroyer and Visions of Khas have posted thus far; you can't go wrong with post-rock and hardcore. Oh, and Unwound rules!

As for me:

Ef - Hello Scotland

Imagine an amalgamation of Rock Action-era Mogwai and This Will Destroy you with some really beautiful (albeit sparse) male and female vocals. You can maybe throw in a little Sigur Ros for good measure. I'm not a big fan of their newer album, I Am Responsible, but Give Me Beauty... Or Give Me Death! may be one of my favorite post-rock albums ever.

Okay, so we’ve got a slow string section playing 3 note chords that builds up with keys hitting the bass root note of the triads at the 1 of a bar of 4 at regular intervals. At about 1.33 you’ve got another string section adding chord extensions to the harmony- e.g 9ths or 7ths- and it’s these that add the extra tension to the piece- the chords haven’t necessarily changed from before; it’s the same chord progression.

We have that droning electric instrument in the background at around 2:20 that comes in with the hit on the first beat of the bar signalling the next section. With this section we have two notes being played by a piano with delay that rotates from the foreground to the background. At around 3:45 it seems to move to the minor second of D minor adding a lot of tension but quickly moving off it to what I think is the fourth to lessen the tension, but we never seem to resolve to the D minor at the end- instead it hangs on a different chord that doesn’t quite end the song- we are left with a desire for it to go back to D minor. However the composer has chosen it not too- it’s a dramatic piece that’s purpose is to leave us unfulfilled at the end.

I only listened to it once, it’s a nice piece, so I hopped I helped, if only a little. Or did I go too much into the theory side of things- or maybe not enough. :/

If you want an overall description-

it’s an ambient piece that uses a slow string ensemble to create different measures of tension with the use of their droning timbre and by adding chord extensions as the song progresses. There is a pulse that hits on the 1 of a bar of 4 occasionally so the listener does not get their sense of rhythm displaced in the drone of the strings. At the end we are left unsatisfied as the chord progression does not end on the D minor, which is the tonic note of the scale that the whole song derives from. :)

Remember, I’ve only listened to it once- so nobody kill me if I got something wrong. :p

Zabi.

Haha, I seem to have scared you. :p It’s a pretty simple diatonic song, so music wise it’s not very complicated... I’ve had a lot worse to deal with.... :/

Anyway, I’ve got “Trademark” on by Eric Johnson... one of the most under rated guitar players there are- he’s also got an epic set of signature strings I’ve bought recently, bust that’s beside the point.

Aweosme! I'm glad you liked it. Joy Wants Eternity kind of fall into that really archetypal post-rock sound, but they still have a special place in my heart.

Anyway, I'm listening to "Marked With the Knowledge" by Saxon Shore

If it's a Youtube link, it's simple. For your url, take the characters that show up after the equal sign (itpVz-Tp9Qw) and surround them in [ youtube ] url [ /youtube], minus the spaces.

"Travel is Dangerous" is seriously one of the best rock songs ever. As much as I love Mogwai, I can't really get into their newer stuff too much. Not that the albums are bad or anything, I just think they became a bit too formulaic and play the "instrumental rock" card a bit too much. I don't care how cheesy old songs like "R U Still In 2 It?" and "Now Your Taken" totally draw me in more than the other songs--sappy lyrics and spoken vocals and all.

I just can't see another "Take Me Somewhere Nice" coming from Mogwai, unfortunately :(.

Anyway, I'm listening to "Between Berwyn and Brwyn Mawr" by Castevet. Hometown heroes and good dudes. Have fun with the alliteration in the song title as well, haha.

Speaking of Converge, Axe to Fall has recently usurped the title of "Best Converge Album" from You Fail Me; seriously everything about Axe to Fall is impeccable. I'm really upset I missed them last time they came to Chicago.

Blazur, how good is the SC2 soundtrack, seriously? The Terran songs are even better than their SC counterparts, albeit being slightly less memorable. Cheesy Leone-inspired riffs I can totally get behind.

Sarov, I usually don't dig too much trance/electronica/dubstep, but that song was AMAZING. It reminded me of a more driving Burial, actually. Any recommendations for any Trentemøller albums to check out? I'm kind of a noob to that realm of music, so any similar artists that I could check out would be awesome too :).

Anyway, I'm listening to "Firebreather" by Thrice. If I didn't hear this band about 10 years ago when I first started getting into music, I don't think I would be listening to the music I do now. Even though Thrice strays a bit from my central music taste, I still love them just the same.

Heh. Thanks. :)

I do tend to listen to the 'electronic music' category (trance, techno, house, etc) more than anything else (I absolutely love it) but I never listen to an entire CD. Most of my music I find on a random YouTube search or while listening to another. Once I find a song I like, I'll listen to songs by the same artist. Sometimes I just randomly pick a video while listening to another song and it turns out to be one I actually like, much like Take Me Into Your Skin.

I don't usually recommend an artist but rather a few of their songs that are favorites of mine or that I think are the best introduction to that type of music. So far though, I've only found two songs from Trentemøller that I actually like enough to recommend to other people:

Trentemøller - Miss You
Very good and has a bit of a sad feeling to it but it's very calming. I could fall asleep to it.

5DUCKGyojpE

Trentemøller - Kink
It might not seem good at first, but it gets better at around 0:42. It's also, in a way, very calming but only at certain parts.

peMMh9shmrk

As for other artists, I don't think I know of any who have a similar style, sound or feel to that of Trentemøller - so far or that I can remember. So here are a few electronic songs with vocals that I think are actually pretty good:

Samantha James - Rise
For this song it wasn't the lyrics but the tone of the vocals combined with the 'electronic' part. They both go together to make a song that seems both sad and happy, and at the same time, is very calming.

This song makes me sad and carries two messages for me: if you love someone you should believe in whatever they do and trust that they'll come back to you, as well as, so long as people hope, they will believe and stand together. I'm not sure if that even matters to anyone else but when I realized that, I seemed to like the song even more.
s3GyjW0-M0A

Late Night Alumni - Light Reading
Like Rise, this song is very calming. It is different from any of the other songs in this post because it uses instruments as well as 'electronics'. Very good in my opinion.
rEBgl9B2G_8

I have other songs that I like which belong to the 'electronic' group (trance, eletronica, techno, house, etc) but I'll wait to see if you like any of the ones I've suggested so far before I suggest more. :)

All of these guys are amazing. Seriously, even if you don't like the songs I posted, just look them up and get a blast of their genius.
All of them extremely original and versatile. You're sure to find songs to your liking in their repertoir, regardless of taste.
Just don't listen to the Arctic Monkey's last album, they've lost their edge. Listen to their two first albums that are full of energy.
The others are altogether amazing.
