1. Master of Orion II - reigning champion for pure sci-fi awesomeness unlike I've seen since;
2. StarCraft - how can this not be in my top;
3. Unreal Tournament 2007 - the amount of time I've spent fragging my mates in this justifies the #3 spot;
4. Titan Quest - best action RPG ( until Diablo 3 comes out ); the atmosphere this game produces is mesmerizing, and the replay value is ridiculous;
5. Mass Effect - amazing story and universe make this a solid sci-fi experience;
6. Baldur's Gate II - somebody knew their D&D when they put this together;
7. Raptor: Call of the Shadows - TOP. DOWN. SHOOTER. :D
8. Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty - I played this for years when I was a kid. It was captivating as hell;
9. Half Life II - loved the first part, but this one took it to a new level. I can still hear the music;
10. Freelancer - Good times, this game was really immersive ( even though it has its flaws ). I loved how you could upgrade your ship and interact with all the factions and explore space ( X3 is a more complex version of this, but it didn't get me into it as much )

In no real order, since that requires actual thinking, and I'm running late this morning.

Final Fantasy IX. In this case, it's music and story. I love the soundtrack, one of the best in the series. As for story, it's good in my opinion, but what really shines is Kuja. He's one of the most sympathetic villains I've ever seen, no matter how horrific his actions. I can fully understand why he did what he did, especially is freak-out at the end.

Final Fantasy XII. A lot of people don't seem to like this one, but I never understood why. Then again, I can't figure out why I like this one so much. It's a gut feeling, I suppose.

Final Fantasy VI. Best plot, best characters, best soundtrack. This game is my favourite, not just in the series, but of all games.

StarCraft, obviously. Excellent plot, characters, even music, though I don't listen to it much. Kerrigan is definitely one of the greatest villains in gaming.

Portal. It was an interesting escape from the normal FPS style, had an endearing villain, and is all-around excellent.

Mass Effect. Great story, even if a little cliched.

SW:KotOR II, with an excellent plot full of twists, and some of the best music in any Star Wars game.

...because if you have at least the slightest interest in Starcraft, Legacy is the best place to come?

To be perfectly honest, Starcraft isn't even my favorite RTS. But I have an interest in it, and certainly an interest in SC2, and so Legacy is where I come. After all, where else could we find so many (many) posts discussing things that may not even show up in Beta, and yet have so much fun in the process? :D

No I'd say the place to go would either be sc2.com or b.net. I mean sure you could end up here but unless you actually love starcraft to death you wouldn't take the time to join the site and participate in all those macro discussions and etc. Instead, you would most likely end up on a fan site that talks about your favorite game.

I'm not trying to attack anyone here but I just find it rather interesting that people that are not pationate about Starcraft would join us. I find it even more ironic to see that a lot of players that barely ever really got into SC1 multiplayer would go on and debate on the multiplayer aspects of Starcraft 2. So... how about we all go play some Starcraft: BW:D 1v1 anyone? 2v2? 4ffa?:p

I don't think that's so strange. I for example have never played even one multiplayer game of starcraft in my life. But i did finish all of the campaigns a few times. I actually prefer warcarft3 much more than starcaft, and i still play warcaft till this day. But im a blizzard fan, and an rts fan, and with all the hype sorunding Starcraft, i decided to observe the development and educate myself about this game, so i joined this site ;)

Oh man, this is a hard one. A few come to mind immediately though:

1. Gothic
2. Myth 2
3. Strife
4. Thief 3
5. Fallout 2
6. Deus Ex
7. Civilization 3
8. C&C
9. Diablo 2

There are probably tons more, but the above stand out like santa claus in a latex fetish party. Didn't put Starcraft up there because it being one of the favorites should be obvious given the forum I'm posting in. :p

The original IndependenceWar, Starsiege and StarCraft are the ones that have influenced me as an artist.
1.- IndependenceWar had a 14 minute long intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7AsRQXOUSY) that blew me totally away, and gameplay had "realistic" space flight physics for the players warship. (exaggerated of course)
2.- Starsiege: awesome art style (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i9LfDIiiCU) for the mechs that the Artificial Intelligence (evil) faction had.
3.- StarCraft need I say anything? :D

Total
• IndependenceWar 1 and 2
• Starsiege (EarthSiege 3)
• StarCraft
• Mechwarrior 2 and 3
• Ace Combat 6
• Sonic Adventure 1 and 2
• Battlefield Bad Company

Actually you have it backwards, Sandwich. Legacy is known as the place for LORE lovers, not the competitive people. If I enjoyed SC competitive, which I despise, I'd spend my days at TL.

And just because we aren't into SC MP doesn't mean we don't know anything about RTSs, balancing, or what could possibly work in SC2. After all, SC2 is supposed to be its own beast.

Because if Starcraft is not your number one favourite game of all time, you are incapable of being passionate about it. Interesting.

But to return to the topic at hand, in no order:

- Left 4 Dead

No, this is obviously not what I meant. My post was directed to Xyvik more than anyone else considering:

and probably StarCraft.(regarding his favorite games)

Again I must say that it's fine if him or anyone else don't enjoy the game as much as others.

Actually you have it backwards, Sandwich. Legacy is known as the place for LORE lovers, not the competitive people. If I enjoyed SC competitive, which I despise, I'd spend my days at TL.Yes indeed. That still doesn't change the fact that even though most of our members never were competitive players (and most likely enjoy more the universe than the gameplay), the SC2 section is still way more active than the lore section. Furthermore, the majorities of all the SC2 threads have gameplay related topics.

And just because we aren't into SC MP doesn't mean we don't know anything about RTSs, balancing, or what could possibly work in SC2.

Though I agree with most of this, I believe that if you never played SC MP you are missing some key factors to understand how the sequel's MP should work and be played. Sure, a lot of other RTS have come but once you actually play SC MP and really get into it you realize how much different it is from every other RTS imho. For example, just adding a new race brings tons of work for competitive players. Of course this is obvious for any rts players but you don't really understand how big this work load really is unless you take the time to get competitive in SC MP imo.

After all, SC2 is supposed to be its own beast.

It will be different but from what I can see atm, the core gameplay is the same.

In any case, you should give MP a chance :p Though I agree that it is really not welcoming at first but once you start getting into it, it's more addictive and fun than it looks!

Well, reguardless of "type" of fan, I guess one could say that we all have to play the game in some way or the other. :D

As for the rest - Lore forum seems to mostly cover only the written aspects, but topics reguarding the visuals of StarCraft (artwork, unit design, etc.) are also in the SC2 section.

-Free Space 2

Oh yes! *add to list*
IndependenceWar = My favorite space warship sim of all time.
FreeSpace 2 = My favorite space fighter sim of all time.

Unfortunately the "glory days" of the space sim genre is pretty much dead.
I have yet to come across a game that even remotely measures up to those two franchises. :(

In the case of Free Space, I was sad that it ended at two games given the second game's epic cliffhanger. I was still into Wing Commander back then, but when THAT got stale, Free Space comes along and just spat all over it and thus I never looked back. The Erinyes and the Terran modified Mara are two of my favourite fighters.

Just moved into my new house and got my internet back, woohoo! So yes, forgive me for a minor bit of NecroThreading, but I thought I might tackle this really quick.

I was actually quite active in SC MP during the years closely following Brood War. I was never terribly good at it, although my Zerg constant pressure strategies kept my win numbers higher than my losses. I gave up on SC once I saw the disturbing trend of everything devolving into three unit BOs. I despise that portion of SC MP. Otherwise, I actually do enjoy SC MP, as long as it's not the semi-pro scene but more the casual type.

My passion about SC stems from passion for most RTS: balance and strategy. I want to make sure SC2 doesn't devolve into three unit BOs, and that I can get very passionate about :p
