Eventually I've saved around enough money for a digital table; but after taking a course on Digital Art, I found out that I had a hard time drawing in a tablet while looking at the monitor.
Eventually my teacher told me it was a common problem within the artist group, so he told me to buy a tablet/monitor. This will eventually help me work as If I did on paper and know what I'm tracing and where.
Just looking for some opinions related to this and about what tablet would suit me best.

I tried out a tablet a few years ago, and found to have the same problem.
Today I don't have a tablet or monitortablet, since I don't really do 2D artwork anymore.

Yes, I would recommend the Cintiq 12WX. It costs a fair bit of money but it's worth it. Despite how big the Cintiq 21UX is, you don't need something that large and the 12WX works just fine. So I'd say stick with the Cintiq 12WX for now.
Although I can't speak from personal experience, I will be getting the Cintiq 12WX some time soon and Wacom makes excellent tablets (of that much I am sure).

I'm using a Wacom Intuos 4 Small, and it's awesome. I actually find it more comfortable than the Intuos 3 Medium we've got at the office.

from personal experience (I do quite a bit of digital artwork -> imdrunkontea.deviantart.com if you want to see), it's much better to get a standard tablet and use the remaining money for a large, high quality monitor, rather than something like the cintiq. some problems i've heard from the cintiq-style tablets are:
- hand gets hot from the monitor's heat
- image is rather small (low-resolution) compared to, say, 1920x1200
- the cintiq is rather large/bulky and requires its own power plug
- your hand actually ends up blocking a lot of the screen
- your neck cramps from staring down too much
sure, starting with a normal tablet feels awkward at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly, and you get the advantage of seeing more of the screen at a time as well (since your hand isn't in the way).
a lot of digital artists start with a normal tablet, then upgrade to a cintiq, only to find that they are so used to regular tablets that the tablet/screen combo is too awkward and cumbersome to use.

Issue #1 eventually make me get a normal tablet.
