I dont know if you guys have been following Command and Conquer 4 but I wanted to hear your thoughts. One of the new features is you start the game with a basic set of units, abilities, powers, upgrades etc..
As you win games you get experience points and gain new units, abilities, etc..
So you can be playing someone on multiplayer who has access to more units types then you.

The standard gameplay is around multiplayer 5v5. You pick from one of three classes (offense, support, defense). Every class has a crawler which is basically a mobile base/super unit. Only the defense class can build buildings and even that is limited to defense buildings and superweapon buildings. Oh and the superweapons ar no longer binary. They charge up. If you use the superweapon before its fully charged you get a less powerful spell.

This installment reminds me more of World in Conflict than of Command and Conquer.

Looks weird. Do not want.

More and more RTS games are going for a mixture of strategy/role-playing (as in gaining levels and/or experience) and it seems that quality is going lower and lower, especially Command and Conquer, IMO. It just doesn't look fun.

I do think that Dawn of War 2 did it really well, but it fits the universe, not C & C

And multiplayer is too much like battlefield or call of duty, not an RTS

Edit: I want to make an exception for world in conflict. That game is awesome

I haven't followed it much, though I know what this game involves. A movil base is quite strong but it won't take much out of the tech 3 units. Early game will go mad and eventually keeping up your base will involve A LOT of macro. That's basically the main problems besides balance.

But it still got an original name "tiberian twilight"

The only reason I've been buying the C&C games since after Red Alert 2, was due to awesome unit designs, ingame voice acting, and soundtrack.

For the first time since Tiberian Sun, I'm actually curious to see this so called "final" story.

Is that a miniature science vessel in that picture? :D

Now that you guys mention it that thing does look like a science vessel )I always picture them more as balls then disks) but I really think it looks an awefully lot like the protoss mothership.

The game does looks nice but I really don't like what they are doing with the multiplayer. Too much balance issues because of this:

As you win games you get experience points and gain new units, abilities, etc..
So you can be playing someone on multiplayer who has access to more units types then you.

Command and Conquer get their BETA tommorow. HAHAHA AND HERE WE ARE AHAHAHAH STILL WAITING AHAHAHA FOR THREE WHOle long freaking years.......

*breaks down crying*

So, all the above is the process by which YOU can get in to the C&C 4 Beta. I expect anyone on these forums who wants to be in the C&C 4 Beta now, should be by the end of this week via any of the above processes. We will do our best to accommodate in a timely manner. See you in there.

Why are they attacking Santa's workshop?

Anyhow, I'm not really interested. Lack of basebuilding has not gone well in RTSs for me, and RTSs with RPG-elements have never really interested me.

Actually EA has encouraged this over their last projects. An evident project is the german RTS BattleForge, which involved the building of your own 20 set deck of cards for each game. These cards could be upgraded and booster would be bought for real cash in order to gain better and more powerful cards.

Yeah but it was a ''card game'' from the start so I wouldn't say it's that similar.

I hate that they removed the base-building aspect from this game. That was one of the most fun things about Tiberian Sun, for me.

They seem to be removing base building from lots of strategy games now days. Real Time Tactical seems to be the "new" thing.

Which is why I get real tired of Blizzard haters bashing Blizzard for not doing anything "new" or "innovative."

Leave us alone, we like Starcraft 2 as it is. I want my base building.

Oh, boy, when E$ revealed that Age of Spaceology would be using socket bases, without free-build defenses, there was a huge flame war between members who thought it was a mistake and the unwashed masses of nooblings who insisted that Ao$ was to be a brand new genre of RTSs.

Where did you get AoS info from, I've never heard of it?

AoS is a joke name for Halo Wars.

I don't get it. They should've learned by now what made the first C&C, the first RA, and the third C&C3 so popular while the other games never reached those heights. Those games are all set in the near future. Everything has a 'near-future' vibe to it. The tanks look more beefy but they're still clearly tanks. Not strange looking mechs.

The problem with C&C2 was that it basically went too futuristic. I hated that game because of that. Same with Red Alert 3, it's like a parody of the first Red Alert. Walking ninja-robots and the like? Really, I thought this was supposed to be a hypothetical futuristic time-line. Sure there are oddities, like tesla-coils and whatnot. But most of the stuff is still clearly recognizable as modern tech with a few funky changes.

And now they're right back at making C&C4 as weird looking as possible. It’s like the GDI and NOD suddenly adopted Scrin unit designs.

Ah, well. I'll probably end up getting it anyway.

If by C&C2 you mean Tiberian Sun, I think that was the best game of the series.

One of the main reasons I played Command & Conquer and the Dune games from Westwood was because of the bases. To me, It is as if the company removed the heart of what makes C&C an awesome game.

Moving RTS and turning it into some RTTS+RPG+CardGame is the work of the devil. Thus,

THE END IS NEAR.

It worked for another EA game called Battle Forge, but I agree it might kill C&C just because of the shifting gameplay and balance issues.
