Hey, I've been posting videos on Youtube. They're basic tutorials on WarCraft III World Editor. I've gotten comments thanking me for them and I've done a lot of them by request, yet most of them have a 1 star rating...
Now, I don't really give a damn how many people view them, so view count doesn't matter to me. But ratings... that's just hurtful. :( I'll post the videos, can you tell me in all honesty if they deserve the rating they got? And if not, what do you think they should have?

I think the bad ratings are because.
1. No voice and people are just kinda assholes
2. Most people know how to do that kinda stuff ( or have that own way of doing it) and think that your video is usless.
3. Most of the people that you will help with this will not rate the video (which is why you should care more about the view counts than ratings anyway)
Personally its nice of you to put together short videos. They weren't that bad, and as far as i know the things you did weren't "wrong" or inefficient.
If you want some advice on what type of videos to make, you seem to be making videos of things people would want to do in there maps, keep going with that goal once you get into the " cooler" stuff im sure the higher ratings will come.
Most people are prbly looking up how to make "Cool" skills and do custom explosions and random crap like that, so if they came on your video and didnt see what they wanted they may of just clicked a low rating because of that as well.

Alright, as for the lack of a voice, I hate my voice and was trying to make it minimalistic, so it'd take up less space on my computer and wouldn't have music some would like but others hate. Besides, I don't see the point to music anyways, it'd be really hard to find a good song that'd fit a tutorial. Besides, if someone wants to listen to music, it's easy as pie (eating it) to find music around the internets.

Well I don't have a problem with a lack of voice, its just I think some people like having a voice.
I think for the most part over time your video ratings will go up since they are helpful :D
As long as your videos stay short like this, no music but you might want to add some background style music for anything longer than 3 minutes.

I think it's not "lack of voice" but "lack of sound". Even if you had a basic music track in the background, that's almost considered standard for youtube videos. Try that and see how the ratings are for the next one. Specific note: Choose a track with no words to allow their mind to focus on the actual content and not the words of the music. That's why techno and world music are popular choices. The closest to "words" should be Enya or Chanters music.

Yeah, silent videos tend to get a very low rating within the first two seconds of being viewed. Adding a bit of ambient music helps a bunch. Since your videos are specific to WC3, it might help to put some ambient game music in there. Also, it's best not to judge by the first few ratings you get right off the bat. The best test of a video's "worth" is the rating it has once it reaches at least 1 year of age. However, if the video is only a month old or less and people offer some advice on how to do it better, it might be worth taking the video down and redoing it.
