War Hammer Fantasy

So I was hired for an art commission, and need some help. My client wants illustrations for cards for WarHammer spells, and I don't know much about it. I'm currently tasked with fleshing out the Lores, specifically Chamon, or Lore of Metal.

Are any of you familiar at all with the WarHammer universe? I'm talking original WH, not WarHammer 40K. I'm interested in game mechanics, lore, history, important characters/historical figures, gods, individual spells, etc.

Of course, the MMO doesn't hit upon more of the universe, but it's a good start. Besides that, I think the only other way you can learn about the universe besides buying the codices is just browse Wikipedia and whatnot. In all reality, I'm not that enthused about the Warhammer Universe. The Games Workshop site used to be a whole lot more awesome and informative until they changed it into to commercial-centered site of today, which totally sucks balls.

I would suggest you head down to your local GW store and check out the rulebook. It will give you a general overview of how magic works, plus a listing of the eight major magical schools and some fluffy descriptions of how certain spells work. Some of the individual armies will also have their own special version of magic to work with, so check out the codices as well.
