So we've all seen the new portraits and splash art, especially the new Protoss Victory Screen, tend to espouse an SC2 style, hyper-realistic, non-gritty art style.
The question is: What can be done to change the new art into something that jives more with SC1? It dosen't have to be realistic, but by talking about SC:RM in this way I think it's easier to notice the inconsistencies.

The blue print is already there. They just have to the touch it up. They're missing the point because they don't want to, therefore, nothing can be done.

Easy, just look at Eco's signature of the old victory screens of each race. What sticks out most across all three of them? Answer: The darkness and shadows are quite accentuated.

To be honest, I'm fairly certain that Blizzard won't change their art. Look at SC2 and D3. People were crying A LOT more than they are now for SC:R and Blizzard just gave them the finger. In D3, that took the form of the unicorn level and in SC2 Samwise joked about putting more wings on the zerglings and stuff like that. They really don't care. They've always been kinda bad at dealing with gamers' opinions of their art direction. In fact, the only time I remember them ever promptly and directly appeasing the fans was for SJW non-sense related to Overwatch. To be fair, it's easier to remove an asset(what happened with overwatch) than remaking assets but anyways.

Which is sad since the reason StarCraft is the game it is today is because they went back to the drawing board after the initial unveiling of StarCraft was panned as 'WarCraft in Space'. Looks like they've just always wanted to make variations of WarCraft and anything else is the exception tolerated temporarily with much reluctance.

Yeah, I remember the whole 'Tracer is too sexy!!!" non-sense, and then turned her into a lesbian (with rumors of being transgender, because inherent, irreconcilable contradictios shouldn't get in the way of SJW check lists).
*sigh*
If only true fans could get half of the reaction as SJWs.

I like how they appease people that don't even play their games, but flip us players off while laughing in our faces.
keep it up blizz.

Same art, more pixels.

On that note Nissa, we finally have the old Terran Briefing Room remastered!

It looks pretty damn faithful to the original, save for the irony that the original was actually a bit more well lit (which in my opinion, changes the feel quite a bit), but it shows they were on the right track!

Someone awesome on the new StarCraft 1 forums made this side-to-side comparison.

Good thing the intern ignored Samwise and didn't put in the colorful iMac computers.

That would have taken a Didier all over the artwork.

Even though it's technically very faithful, if still feels off right? I think it has to do with three things:
The rust being slightly excessive
The original actually being well lit and bright unlike the new one
The computers code is only halfway done in the 1st one so it looks feels slightly ominous

The wall splatter looks almost like blood. Gives it a bit more of an eerie feeling. Almost like there's a war going on .. a war that doesn't revolve around Raynor and Kerrigan's emotions. Almost like there are real and lasting consequences.
I approve.

Looks perfect imo. Are there like 2 artists working on this? One that does his job perfectly and one that tries hard to impress Samwise?

I genuinely believe it's a direct consequence of feedback. Stratgos and I have been on the forums a lot recently. I literally have made 14+ threads on art, and a lot of them did pretty well! (I'm Cam).
Pete Stilwell and the classic games team genuinely care about remastering SC1 and they WILL listen. You just need to shout on the new Starcraft forums

Wow, I like that. That's a good briefing room. No complaints.

Oh. Oh damn. That is nice, very nice. I love the blood splatter too. War doesn't obediently sit and stay in the trenches where it's supposed to, it comes knocking at your fucking door like a Jehovah's witness and invites itself inside. Nobody is immune.
I may be a Protoss fanboy, but god damn does this have me excited to see the Zerg briefing room.
... I still want to know where that ladder leads though.

My only issue with the briefing room is that stupid blue filter they put over everything, other than that it's really good.

I dunno I kinda have to part with you guys on this one. I feel like the new one definitely looks slightly different. The tiles are glazed, even reflective, in the original. The room is overall more well-lit and it looks like a submarine control room if anything.
I think SC2 obviously over did it with the good lighting and bright-cartoonish design, but I don't want to make some scenes of SC1 darker than they are.

See, that's sexy.
When they're not drawing units/characters, the SCR art team knows its shit.

Pretty damn good, I like some of the additions (like the mountains actually being visible)
only thing I dislike are the needless overuse of Khaydarin crystals.

I'm just glad the doric columns aren't overlapping each other like they did in the old version.
The new version is more late afternoon, while the older one is near dusk. The atmosphere doesn't quite translate because of that, but otherwise it's quite beautiful.

I could nitpick it, but, at this point, I'm going to call it the greatest thing I've seen all week.

And this.
Needless changes. I particularly hate the crystals on the big thingy in the top left. Not sure wtf that thing is supposed to be but I prefer the spikier look of the original.
I don't hate the new look though. It's alright.

Back then, I never quite figured out what those spiky, rock-like things were in that scenic view of the old Protoss briefing screen. At first, I thought it was a natural but weird formation/alien geology though some had walkways connecting them. It kinda makes sense that they were always buildings but now with the remastered version, it's much clearer that they are simply buildings.
I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or not that that mystery has been solved. Looking good either way.
