They were hunted as zamara, they have resistance to Amon. I come to the conclusion is that the purpose of this hunt on they was to weaken the immune system itself khala developed by countless generations of Protoss memories, short story starring Rohana, it looked like the preservers could harmonize the colective protoss. That's hard to say. Back in the DT Saga, I had thought it was to prevent the prophecy from being leaked, as this was what Zamara was telling Zeratul. Not sure about harmony and everything. Rohana DID say over time that Amon was becoming harder and harder to resist in the Khala. Ultimately I think she would have succumbed to it as well. The Khala was a means of manipulation for him, and the very FIRST preserver could not have existed before Khas rediscovered the link in the Aiur Caverns.

This really makes me wonder how well Amon knew of the preservers and everything, and did he see them a threat. If yes, perhaps he passed commands to Ulrezaj to kill them. Still, while all of the working together might have hinder Amon's plans, this is more hindsight. Back then, no one knew the Khala could be corrupted like that.
