I know that it's been debated in many forums over the last year on terms of copy protection. Some people's concern is about intrusiveness that impedes on the abilities of the legitimate buyers.
I think you'll love this example of new ways that copy protection is working:

I'd like to hear thoughts, I think this idea is outright brilliant.

The problem isn't what the game does if it's pirated. The problem is how to check if the game is pirated in the first place.
That kind of protection is probably more difficult to detect and bypass, however, than simply rejecting the player at the same obvious point every time.

The glitch should be the game doesn't work at all. Durr.

The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection, to catch out people who try and download cracked versions of the game for free. It’s not a bug in the game’s code, it’s a bug in your moral code.
That's just awesome.

This reminds me of Mirror's Edge. In about the fourth level of the game, your movement speed would slow to a crawl just before a critical jump if the game detects your game to be pirated.

And that's pure genius because a badly pirated game ends up being a demo (to encourage people to buy the actual game). That's a pretty smart move imo.

The move in question is Batman's ability to spread his "wings" and glide. This is a major part of the platforming portion, so they're of the same opinion.

Sweet.
Now all we need is for pirated copies of SC2 to to crash the editor everytime a unit is placed.
The core multiplayer will consist of workers who mine 1 mineral instead of 5, and they don't phase through each other, instead, they bump into each other to try to get their resources collected.
