It's not official yet, but the animation surfaced briefly on the Korean D3 site, along with leaked photos across the Internet.
No official details have been released yet aside from the male model.

D3 is still ages away... I'm hoping more for an update on the D2 patch.

I've never been fond of melee action (I love me some Necromancer), but the Monk may change that. He looks very impressive.
The first Monk character I create I'm naming Aang or Lui Kang. :D

Seeing as I used to play Staff Barb builds in D2, I'm very excited to play the Monk in D3.
I'd name mine "Bruce Lee", but that name will be taken before anyone buys the game.

There are not nearly enough Indian culture based characters in modern gaming, so the Monk is really a breath of fresh air (though why on earth would he come from a place with such a Slavic name as Ivgorod*??? Ancient Slavic cultures were pagan, had no monks and had nothing in common with either Buddhism or Hinduism**).
I still hope for the fifth character to be a Knight or a Samurai though (in the case of a Knight NOT a shiny Holy Paladin Warrior with rays of light issuing from every possible aperture that Blizzard so loves doing but a more grounded and down to earth armoured fighter able to equally use bows and melee weapons (both Knights and Samurai received extensive archery training) and a flavour based on the more practical aspects of chivalry and martial code of conduct rather than religion).
*That said, it would be nice to see a Russian based Bogatyr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogatyr) sort of character, there are not nearly enough of those in modern fantasy games either.
**Tho' the Monks actual philosophy seems to be more Shinto based than anything else.

My friend at GamesCom played as the Monk, he has some kick-ass powers.
I played as the Wizard(girl) since you can choose will it be male or female
the game is sick, looks sick and plays sick, I have no words on what I've seen since it was all awesome!

I seem to be doing this a lot but I must say that after seeing the screenshot below my admiration for the Blizzard artists is well nigh boundless (not that it wasn't like that before). Not only do the cliff and the steps look like true, convincing rocks (something difficult to achieve and that I haven't seen before in this kind of game), but they look like true, convincing rocks rendered in an exquisite watercolour (which is truly mindblowing).

Diablo3 is gonna be a dream. But realistically it's at least a year or two away, so I'm not gonna lust after it just yet. Besides, all that energy is currently dedicated to SC2 which undoubtedly will precede D3.
Still...looking forward to getting back into some proper LAN gaming. Lately all my buddies and I have been playing Steam games over the Internet (TF2, L4D, Killing Floor). Diablo2 is still the best LAN party game I've ever experienced.

Amazing. Even though I still find the title currently "weak"(but not weak compared to everything else :D) when I look at starcraft and imagine what kind of user made rpg will be created out of this beautiful engine, I must say I'm impressed with the monk. Cool stuff. I'm now debating if I will do a wizard or a monk. Can't wait to see the other class!

After finally watching the Monk reveal trailer, after watching the gates close, a quote comes to mind:
Rorschache: "I'm not stuck in here with you -- you're stuck in here with ME!"
