Gravity gun + pig = Revenge has never been so satisfying.

I saw District 9 last night with some friends, and it was legen --wait for it... dary. Produced by Peter Jackson and directed by Neill Blomkamp, it is actually the misbegotten bastard son-shrimp of the now-defunct Halo movie. Long story short: Fox/Universal pulled the plug on Master Chef, so Jackson and Neill were left in the middle of South Africa with effects crews and actors. What did they do? Decide to blow stuff up anyway, of course. As any self-respecting geeks would do.

It's also a beautifully done movie. Though the cinematography is in the style of Blaire Witch, Cloverfield and Public Enemies (hand-held cameras, aka shaky-cam) the documentary approach and superb handling by the videographers allows the audience to forgive it. Moreover, the cheeky political and racial themes, and ensuing brutality, are actually very believable in my opinion.

See this movie. Now. (I know DemoSquid probably has already.)

I was the one to make the thread for it on BF. You can bet I've seen it, twice, and it is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It gets my nod for every award imaginable.

I made this sig a few nights ago. I don't like it as much as some of my recent stuff. Original pic was low quality and it just seems like a monotone graphic... Anyways, figured someone might want to use it, so here it is...

Perhaps the second greatest movie of all time. :)

Hell, even competing for first.

I tried to see it on opening night. Of course it was sold out and I was stuck with harry potter instead (which turned out better than I thought). But yesterday I finally made it and I must say this is one of the best movie ever. The girls were crying in the theatre (no joke), the geeks talked for 2 hours about the movie after the ending and I left still shaking from how good this piece of art was. A must see.

Just saw the movie. It was one of the best I've ever seen.

I just hope they make a sequel, too many cliffhangers

Today was my first day of classes for the quarter. In Technology & Literature, we were prompted by the prof to tell our most recently played game, read book and watched movie. Me and about eight or nine people all said D9. Geeking out commenced. It was a good class.

And that's why you and every one in Jo-berg make for poor xeno-relations experts.

It was decent. I enjoyed it

We would so act exactly like that if it really happened too, and too me anyway the movie played out like a single player first person shooter story lol

I hope they have a bigger budget next time.

Restriction breeds creativity though.

In any case, I didn't really sympathize for the aliens. I just felt bad for Wikus because he got pwned.

Tbh, the aliens reminded me of hybrids. They had Zerg personality, but Protoss technology.

i liked d9 but u have to admit, if this movie didnt have the producer like the hobbit guy and viral adds and trailers it would be just another mid budget alien movie. guy teams up with alien so he can cure his virus and get back to the love of his life. comeon

and is it just me or anyone here thinks inglorious bastards sucks? i get the whole tarantino style but this movie is just annoying to me.looks like he made it so jews in hollywood would like him. now pulp fiction was a movie.

i dunno if am the only one feeling this but hey, if gay s your way, thats ok :)

Right, using this standard I could classify any movie you like in one sentence to make it sound like crap.

Whats wrong about evolving the buddy-cop genre? Its the feel good movie of the year!

starship troopers - perfect amount of gore, cheezy themes, cgi and extras(ppl in the movie). its like watching fox news covering "war on terror", if you know what i mean.

and i give credit to the d9 for those un white trucks. during the war in my country we were swarmed by those, but with smaller suspensions. its like a tank on wheels so they are very true in that department. also very true in half life 2 alien weapons.http://thebrowser.com/files/imagecache/500/un-peacekeepers-sarajevo-w.jpg

ST was a good movie because it knew what it was - senseless entertainment.
D9 is a great movie because its something different to everyone who sees it.

one question, since i almost just saw the movie, that module that dropped from the mothership that they got on the tape but couldnt find it later, its the mini ship under the house of that alien in red jacked with son, right?

Indeed.

Well to be honest I expected a more intense storyline of the movie and I have to say the end is a great cliffhanger which I don't really like.

Of course there is some story but for me it's not enough, I expected something completly new. A human which gets infected, looses his wife and tries to get help from the aliens because an organization exploites him, it all seems to have been there already. I would also like to know where the aliens came from, and why they were so undernurised.

So you thought the storyline was weak and you don't like cliffhangers.

Please state your source. IE what other piece(s) of work have a human which gets infected, looses his wife and tries to get help from the aliens because an organization exploits him?

I would also like to know where the aliens came from, and why they were so undernourished.

It didn't matter to the story where exactly they came from, and it was explained in the movie that they were sick and low on supplies.

Interestingly enough, I found this film brilliant. Definitely the best one I have witnessed in the past three or four years.

I didn't say that the storyline was weak, i pronounced that it's a casual story which in my opinion seems fAmiliar, I had expected some outrageous story which was never dealt before. You can not tell me that this setting is completly new. If you read science fiction some similar stories come to your mind.

The special effects, actors and sound are with no doubt great.

Just tell me what exactly makes this movie a very good one to you ?

Is it that aliens are not the bad guys this time?

Of course everyone reacts and feels different to media such like that. Everyone has his own belief of a good movie.

Bits and pieces are familiar, like aliens on earth mingled with the general population in Alien Nation, and how its obviously a nod to the actual apartheid... but aside from that I'm honestly not sure what similar stories you're referring to. Please list some.

I didn't intend to refer to a similar story. I just said that the story for me isn't something completly new, because it feels familiar. Maybe that's because Peter Jackson used film stylistic elemtents, like in 'Cloverfield' with the shaky hand-cam. Yeah the film reminds me of cloverfield.

Anyways I don't to talk the movie down, in my point of view it's a moderate to good movie but not too good.

I saw this movie last Wednesday. I waited so late because I kept trying to get some friends to go, but everyone was busy with something, so I just went by myself. At first I thought I had the whole theater to myself, but there ended up being two couples that constantly had make-out sessions and crap. Anyway......

That movie was absolutely fantastic.

'Oh, honey, those guys blowing up is turning me on,' the young woman said.

'Yeah, the gibs are really hot,' replied her boyfriend.

And they began to make out.
