StarCraft II
IAHGames.com has conducted an interview the lead writer of
StarCraft II,
Brian Kindregan, regarding the art of game storytelling. Kindregan speaks about his previous history writing for movies such as Space Jam and Iron Giant before he goes into detail about how he entered the gaming industry and how he helped create
StarCraft II's storyline.
Johnny Tay: How different is game storytelling from movie storytelling?
Brian Kindregan: Games are interactive. The player is a partner in the story’s development and we have to engage the player when crafting our story. This is different from movies, where the viewer merely accepts what happens on the screen. However, underneath these different forms of expression lies the same impulse to tell a story. The tools may be different but the need for a cool story remains just as important.
