StarCraft II
Since February 14th the 2010 American International Toy Fair, held in New York, has been in full swing. The annual event is the largest international toy trade show in the Western Hemisphere, where the newest and hottest products, such as action figures are announced and shown off for the first time. It is the premier meeting place for manufacturers, retailers, importers, licensors and reps from around the world. This year it has also included more officially licensed Blizzard products. IGN, among other sources, have confirmed that DC Direct, the popular distributing arm of DC Comics, has acquired expanded rights to Blizzard's intellectual properties. They've announced that DC Unlimited will be producing StarCraft II action figures and statues.
Reportedly, the first StarCraft II action figures will hit store shelves sometime in December. There were a few prototypes shown on the Toy Fair floor but pictures were prohibited. The non-StarCraft versed reporters have written that the first wave will consist of "a Protoss, a Space Marine, and a Terran Soldier". We can only surmise that the Space Marine is Tychus Findlay and the Terran Soldier is Jim Raynor. As for the ambiguous "Protoss", it could either be a Zealot, or a hero, perhaps Zeratul. We imagine they'd want to start the line off with a star-studded line-up. But until more details are released, it's all speculation.
In addition to the lower price point action figures, DC Unlimited has announced plans for at least four statues. The current characters planned for a statue release are: Infested Kerrigan, Zeratul, Jim Raynor, and Tychus Findlay. The estimated ship date for these is December, but which/how many is unknown and while no price point has been announced it is likely that it will be significantly higher than the action figures.
Similar products released include action figures released in 1998, which included a Zealot, a Hydralisk, and a Marine. And another wave of figures (produced by an unrelated company) consisting of Tassadar, another Hydralisk, and a Firebat were released in 2003.

The 2003 wave of StarCraft action figures.
In 2007, to celebrate the announcement of StarCraft II, Sideshow Collectibles produced a limited edition Tychus Findlay polystone statue, which is absolutely stunning and a very sought-after collector's item.
DC Direct's relationship with Blizzard's Warcraft franchise, has been very prolific. And their figures have all been sculpted exceptionally well. Hopefully, the commitment to high-quality that DC has shown in the Warcraft line will be extended to their StarCraft products.
Since many members of the StarCraft Legacy staff are hardcore StarCraft collectors you can bet that we will continue to follow this story.
