Thread: New Melee Map - Critique please.

    Default New Melee Map - Critique please.



    New Map.
    Size: Tiny.

    Internal testing suggests that the map promotes early rushes with intense micro and/or turtle strategies. Most games played are over in 3-8 minutes. Longest game played was 7 minutes and 24 seconds.

    Please criticize the layout. How can I make add depth to the gameplay without adding complexity to the layout?

    Also, I need ideas on what to name this.

    Also, What do you think about the size? Should I make it bigger?
    I wanted to make something that people hadn't played before.

    Some LOS blockers could make the middle much more interesting:



    I took the rocks out, but you could also leave them in.

    Map is so small that there's not much to do besides rush the enemy. Feels like it would get repetitive after several games. Still, it's the best that you could do with such a small size.

    I can see 6 pool Zergling rushes in every game involving Zerg, lol.

    I don't personally like the fact that the only expansions are high yield, but that's just me. This seems like a map that's supposed to be finished REALLY fast, mostly with rushes. And the high yields are there in case it starts taking longer, so you can get a lot of minerals and finish it much faster.

    I thought the high yields were the mains?

    Not sure. Took a closer look and they only have 2 high yields at each spot, so they're not fully high yield, I suppose.

    You need at least 2 expos for each race. This is just silly.

    Originally, the high yeild was the expo. But judging on the comments and the testing... this is turning into a pure rush map.

    I might switch the start locations such that the high ground is the main, and low ground is the expo. With the high yeild mins at the low ground.

    They're behind low yeild minerals so you have to mine through to get to them.
    That's for those games that take so long that ur getting mined out fast. It's a final burst of minerals for a final push. That was the idea any way.


    @ Demo Squid.... I can't possibly fit another expo on a map this size.
    Perhaps more minerals per expansion?

    There's no such thing as "tiny" or "huge" maps. The map size is completely editable at any time. You can easily add an expo for each player in any direction you wish.

    Map > Map Bounds > Check "Modify Map Bounds" and expand with the arrows

    Sorry abt that. The image exporter didn't include the start location, for some reason. I'm sure there's a way to fix that. I'm still learning the editor.
