Tychus has it right. The community is completely split on the issue. Some want a game that is vaguely reminiscent of the original to once again push the genre forward by leaps and bounds. Others want a game that has that warm familiar feeling, taking all the things the original did right, refining it but keeping true to the source.

You CAN NOT please these two groups. My guess is that because change is difficult for people to deal with blizzard made the right choice from a business standpoint. Most people will be pleased to play a new version of starcraft that feels fresh but not different enough to alienate. Others will say it's lazy or they took the safe road. Maybe it is and maybe they did.

Or maybe they created exactly the game they wanted to.
