Thread: Game: StarCraft "Racial music" by favorite artist.

Default Game: StarCraft "Racial music" by favorite artist.

    Simple... Rules are:
Select ONLY ONE (1) of your favorite artists, groups or composers.
From that artist, group or composer, select 3 tunes
1 that you feel fits for Terran
1 that you feel fits for Zerg
1 that you feel fits for Protoss
It can be either the melody, the text or the general feel you get from listeing to the song.
Optional: Write a bit why you chose it, and how difficuly/easy it was.

    Examples:
    Infected Mushroom:
    TERRAN
    Jeenge
Pretty simple, Infected Mushroom makes lots of music I think fits the terran (and the Zerg... sorta). Even thou this can be used for zerg as well I suppose.

    PROTOSS
    Riders on the Storm(Remix)
Hard, and probably does not fit at all, but the rules of the game, THE RULES!

    ZERG
    Heavyweight
Not very hard to find a trippy tune (:P)... but it is difficult to find zergy tune. I think this is the closest they get.

Ooh... and there are no points in this game, you cannot win anything. Its only for fun.

    OK, this is fun...

    ZERG
"Into the Storm" by Blind Guardian

This one is pretty obvious, the instrumental bits and even the vocals during the verses have that "angry insect swarm" quality, approrpriately enough since the song's lyrics deal with a gigantic spider goddess (Ungoliante from the Silmarillion). And it's dark and heavy and fast (heavy metal at its best).

    PROTOSS
    "Aase's Death" by Edvard Grieg

Can't think of any contemporary non-Blizz (much less rock or metal) music that would have the right vibe. This is a slower piece, but it gets the mood and the atmosphere right.

EDIT: if to follow the "One Artist" rule than it'll be Blind Guardian's Theatre of Pain (Orchestral Version). It is appropriately epic and is quite an obvious choice.

    TERRAN
"Black Star" (Orchestral Version) by Yingwie Malmsteen

This has been the toughest one to choose, since I have the least amount of musical association with Terrans. But this particular piece rather reminds me of that one orchestral Terran theme in Brood War in an oblique way. And it generally seems fitting (has that "old world" feel).

EDIT: According to the "One Artist" rule it'll be "Follow the Blind", mainly because there are some instrumentally "Terran" bits.

EDIT: Oops! It had to be only ONE artist? My bad... In my defense, all of the above are works by my favourite musicians. But to rectify there are alternative selections from Blind Guardian's catalogue.

    Protoss
    Global Communication - 'Alpha Phase'
    17 minute ambient techno epic.
    part 1
    part 2

    Zerg
Corea - 'Voy a Morir Como Nuca Nadie a Muerto Antes'
Spanish screamo band. The heavily reverbed guitars and insane yelling in foreign languages give it an alien feel. Angry and all-consuming.
    click

    Terran
    Unwound - 'Terminus'
There's a march-type beat here. The violins that come in during the jammy middle work well. The touch of keyboard/electronics during the final bit is pretty cool too.
    click

...oh it's only supposed to be one band? I'll try this again then.

Yup, that is the point, and the challenge

    Terran
    Joe Satriani
I'm torn between Strange Beautiful Music and Mind Storm, by Joe Satriani. Of course, anything by Joe and his epic acoustic guitar could fid the Terrans nicely.

    Zerg
    Lustmord
    A Light that is Darkness
Lustmord works with haunting ambient noises found in crpyts, and borrows heavily form the strangest musical instruments he can find. Often times he will include animals noises in his pieces. This particular piece is probably the least disturbing I've found so far. Don't listen to anything else he's composed after dark. Ever. Like this.

    Protoss
    Taliesin Orchestra
    Pax Deorum
Taliesin Orchestra covers Enya's Pax Deorum -- "Peace of the Gods". Somewhat haunting yet powerful, conveying the grace and strength of the First Born.

EDIT ONE band? Damn. Erm... I'll get back to you on that...
    Aaand sold.

Since no-one has done this yet, I can go the obvious route for me.
    Jeremy Soule

    Terran
    Imperial Guard Theme
Agreeably, it fits the least, but it is a bit clunky, militaristic in a way that feels a bit over the top and quite old-fashioned for the time context.

    Protoss
Eldar Theme from Winter Assault Mysterious, elusive, but intelligent to the extreme, and in ever dwindling numbers, the Eldar would be a lot like the Protoss if it wouldn't be for the fact that they are backstabbing racists(arguably, the Protoss do consider other races inferior, but NOTHING to the degree of Eldar). The Protoss theme needs to be a lot more heroic and a bit more energetic though. Still, a reasonably good fit in my opinion, both race and music-wise.

    Zerg
    Chaos Theme
I think this fits the best. It has a brooding, yet fierce melody to it that is unmistakably evil.

Wow, cant believe someone else chose Joe Satriani - I've always thought his stuff would fit well.

    Terran
    The Souls of Distortion
The crunchy main riff is what does it for me; I can see the waves of Tanks, Thors, Marauders and all just punching their way forward.

    Protoss
    Hill of the Skull
Unfortunately the 80's synth and gratuitous whammy-bar diving date this one just a bit. But redo with some big, classical strings, throw in a couple of Gregorian Monks, and I think we got something...

    Zerg
    War
The Chorus, I would say, fits the best here, but overall holds the chaotic feel of a Zerg attack.
