Latest short story, focussing on the overlord. Seems to include a zerg POV.

    Huh. That was pretty good.

How recent is the assimilation of the Overlord? Kind of surprised me that the Terrans knew what the original species was like.

I liked this one a lot! Really, one of the better ones.

I was wondering this too, but I think it can be explained. The gargantis proximae are spacefaring, so maybe unlike other species, whose entire populations were infested and assimilated (I would assume, though Abathur would contradict me on that) there are still non-Zerg gargantis proximae floating around, and some have made it to the koprulu sector as well. The terrans who spotted them noticed their resemblance to overlords and assumed that was the connection.

    Aaand sold.

Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow

    Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

It's kind of par for the course nowadays, considering that the terrans know of the slothien and dune runners as well.

"There must be payment for this. There must be punishment. we will punish them. we? I. I will punish them. And I will bring the We."

That... that was some surprisingly moving shit I just read right there.

Maybe some terran xenobiologists chatted up the protoss. Or stole their research.

Probably. It's how they learnt about the slothien at least.

Edit: Looking at the Blackstone piece, I'm guessing they learnt of the overlord's origins through studying the samples, perhaps accessing its genetic memory or something.

Huh, who'd have thought anyone could ever shed tears for the Zerg, right? Forget Raynor and Kerrigan, the tale of Green Eyes and Purple Eyes is the ultimate representation of lost love, revenge and grief (and from Zerg no less!) in the SC universe!

Poor ol' Green Eyes. Never forget, my friend, never forget... :'(

Yup, all the "we", "I" and the suffering of the Overlord that tries to pull the ruins of his mind together was surprisingly disturbing (so were the thought of Confederates starving to death in the Academy). The Terran characters were quite interesting as well. It becomes somewhat less remarkable once the fighting begins, apart from the roach reveal.

Why would the soldier be resocialized in the end? Nothing would justify such an extreme measure, at least if he keeps it at "we were ambushed by the Zerg".
