    Hey, what do you guys typically use for hotkeys when you play SC? I have a standardized scheme which I generally apply for each race.

    Zerg: I use 1-5 for each subsequent hatchery, and leave the remainder for on-the-fly unit groupings.

    Terran: 0 for CC initially, which ultimately becomes the comsat. Then I work downwards with each unit production building (9-rax, 8-rax, 7-fact, 6-star, etc), leaving 1-4 for misc. unit groupings.

    Protoss: 0 for nexus initially, ultimately going to a shuttle if used. Then I work downwards in a similar fashion as Terrans, leaving 1-4 for units.

    I rarely use numbered hotkeys, but do sometimes, primarily depending on the situation.

    I'd rarely use hotkeys for army production buildings (I know, I suck). I would hotkey my CC/Nex/Hatch with 1-5. And hotkey certain squads with 0-6.

    But since SCII has MBS, I will most likely start hotkeying all my buildings, especially since I can select all my gateways with one key. Warp-in is gonna be so much fun.

    Mains downward from 0-7

    The rest for large groupings or stuff like separating M&M

    Agreed, between MBS, Smartcast, and even the new macro mechanics, I think everyone will be rethinking their hotkey routines.

    I cant wait! - No more 10-12 templars storming the same patch of ground or multiple Ghosts locking down the same BC.

    Mostly play terran:

    0-9 comsat, 7-8 CC, 5-6 production, 1-4 units

    Oh yeah dude, no doubt. In SC2 I'll be placing all similar production buildings to one hotkey with the same rally point...unless they're too far apart. For Protoss this is especially important on warpgates, and will make troop deployment so refined.

    Zerg I suspect I'll be hotkeying all hatcheries on 0 with the Queen set as #9. Unless the hatcheries are spread too far apart then I'll key them up separately.

    This has me thinking about ways the hotkey system can be improved:
    • If a function hotkey is unassigned (F1-F4 which recall a screen view), hitting that key will automatically retain your current view. If the key is already assigned, you'll need to use Shift-Function (or is it CTRL-Function?).
    • For keys 1-0. If unassigned, double clicking any number will set that ctrl group for whatever units/buildings are selected. If already assigned, you'll need to CTRL click it to reassign.

    I mostly use hotkeys for my hatches, the most I've reach is till 8 haha, usually 9-0 is my important unit(s).

    For P 8-0 is nexus, & the rest are gateways + units.
    For T, 1-3 cc or scan, rest goes to building production or units.

    For me I only play Terran so... this is generally how it goes.

    Start game, 1 CC.
    2 scouting SCV.

    After rax, it becomes 2 rax, then 3 rax, and 4 rax.
    After that, I build an army.

    1 marines, 2 medics, 0 comsat.

    Rush, hope for a successful sunken break, win.
    Rush, fail at a sunken break, f10esq.

    Let's say... 1 year ago, I never used hotkeys for anything but Comsat.

    But since a few months I start going with:

    1 : Main CC/Nex/Hatch
    2 : First main production building, changes throughout the game.
    3 : Second "" ""
    4 : Third " "
    5 : Comsat
    6 : Upgrade building (I always forget to keep researching)

    Then for units.

    I think there should be a way to select multiple buildings across the map, like a shift-click thing.
