    Because Blizzard didn't come up with the Colossus yet? From a lore standpoint, I would assume that the suprise attack by the overmind didn't leave them time to find and activate the Colossi. They were burried away for a long time before the Zerg showed up.

    The old SC 2 site said they were sealed away after the Kalathi Intercession never to be used again, so they weren't exactly a "hand's reach" away when the Zerg invaded Aiur.

    And anyway, we don't see most of the battles that happened between Protoss and Zerg on Aiur in SC 1 so we don't know what units were used, nowhere is it said that the in-game units appearing in SC 1 are the extent of the Protoss' actual military arsenal.

    This. If they sealed them away they obviously would need some time to find and activate them. More time than the Zerg gave them.

    But two were sitting right next to the Xel'Naga Temple (Overmind Nesting Place) which the Protoss were defending in Zerg mission 9 "Invasion of Aiur". And all Zeratul had to do to activate them was touch a beacon. Im not saying what your stating is out of the realm of possibility but some clarification on this circumstance would prolly strengthen this part of the story.

    Because the Protoss didn't consider the Zerg a threat great enough to warrant reawakening Colossi for? And then the Overmind crashed on top of them and it was too late. That's one viable explanation.

    But otherwise it's just carelesness on Blizzard's part, putting those Colossi in a place they're unlikely to be. Blame the mission designers, not the lore department. Or maybe these Colossi are special and there's a story behind them (if there's an obscure "nitpicking the itty bitty details" question anyone wants to ask Metzen at BlizzCon this is one).

    They seemed to be rather activated during the overmind mission. Maybe it was so that they started the activation, but then the ones that activated them died and they were "active" but still sealed away until a protoss commander arrived.

    Also gameplay != lore. Some things are just done to make the singleplayer missions fun. It doesn't always need to have a lore explanation.

    On counterpoint gameplay enhances lore and vice versa. Just as an example an explanation of the "Lost Colossi of Aiur Temple Prime" would be a great starting point for a SC2 short story like this one http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/lor...ies/colossus/1
