Thread: A few thoughts and questions of StarCraft

Default A few thoughts and questions of StarCraft

Well, I'm screwed. I used to focus my resources on goons. Ya, Stalkers look awesome and are a part of the Dark Templar (the bestest). But they look a lot weaker. I hope I can manage with them, or at least find a new strategy.

Just so I can be up to date, I was wondering a few things.

Does the Overseer still have the same abilities it had? Or for that matter, is the Overseer still in?

What about the Dark Templar, I haven't heard anything about them. Is there anything new?

    Can I haz Starcraft 2 nao? :3

EDIT: Just checked Starcraft Wikia. Ya, I think the Stalkers are a lot weaker. The goon has a increase range ability while the Stalker has a blink ability. Both good for chasing down units. BUT! They bot cost the same, the Stalker has 40 less health, and 10 less damage. The effectiveness of the blink ability imo isn't worth the drastic decreased strength of it.

The stalkers, in the right hands, should prove much deadlier than goons. They deal less damage, but (iirc) they are cheaper and more mobile. Plus, with blink, they can micro in a way that makes dancing goons look sluggish.

Sure, you can't just select all + attack move, but with the proper micro I'm sure they're just as (if not more) deadly.

Ya, I see a little bit of inbalance to them though. They're really strong in a good microers hand, but in the lower skill levels, they're gonna get ripped apart.

and how about my other questions? :3

EDIT: One more question. I have noticed that SC2 Beta icon on the battle.net profiles. I googled it and didn't really find much except the fact that others got it. I was wondering what it is?

I'm guessing one a few things:
    You opted in
You have the needed specs for it
You are in it (doubt it)
    It's approaching

Oh, and one other question relating to the trilogy part. I personally don't have a problem paying for them all, I mean, I'm sure I can manage to muster up ~$50 within 1-2 years of eachother. But my question is, just out of curiousity considering I'm getting em all. They said that the Zerg and Protoss are gonna be considered as expansions. So is that gonna mean I need Wings of Liberty? and if I do, will I need the Zerg expansion for the Protoss?

Yes you will need Wings of Liberty to play either of the expansions. It sounds to me like you aren't going to need Heart of the Swarm to play Legacy of the Void.

As for the beta icon, it seems it's on everyone's account.

Nope, nothing new, same old same old
Sadly, no , but you can haz cheezburger in the meantime!

We haven't had much info on the multiplayer for a while now, but we'll have tons of info after blizzcon and the event in cologne I'm sure...

I think it's very possible that you need the Zerg expansion to install the Protoss expansion.

If the two expansions were totally independent, there would be 4 different user groups:

1- Only with Terran game installed
    2- Terran & Zerg
    3- Terran & Protoss
    4- All of them

4 different user groups that cannot play between each other without reverting to previous expansions.

If the Protoss expa requires the Zerg expa, it's still fragmented into 3 groups.

I think it's pretty obvious that Blizzard should be doing something clever with inter-expansion gameplay, and make the process as painless as possible.

There's another option, that is including all the Zerg MP content into the Protoss expansion, or even allow a user with any of the 2 expansions to download the full MP content, but that doesn't help sales, so i doubt they are going to do that.

A lot of the time what they do is release a patch for anyone without the expansion that contains all of the multiplayer improvements so that the userbase doesn't get fragmented.

Why not just make it so the people with expansions don't get the expansion stuff when playing with non-expansions, as long as they are notified who has what expansion (perhaps with a little icon by their name). That'll allow them all to play together, Blizzard still gets its sales, and it's not a HUGE impact on ppl w/ expansions.
