Hey guys, I'm Joey, and I'm glad to be (officially) be an SCL-er!
I guess I should say something about Starcraft, so here's a little anecdote relating to it. I recently played through the SC and BW campaigns, and here's what I have to say about some of it:
I remember getting Starcraft and Brood War when I was like 12 and being militantly challenged by the single player modes. Starcraft was the first computer game I ever played, and the thought of beating such a game seemed like an unbelievably daunting task. I had a friend whose father cleared both of the campaigns without cheats--I deified him as a "gaming god." In my twelve-year-old ignorance I remember thinking, "I have to beat this before y2k because all my data is going to be erased and I want to have some video game achievement to show for." Needless to say, I couldn't do it without cheats, and if y2k did happen, I wasn't going to have a primitively-rendered closing cinematic to show for.
I mean, how many of you first-time Starcraft players even thought the game was fun without cheats? Learning experiences such as brutally losing to a 40-APM opponent without any hope of a reprieve is not something a preteen such as myself at the time would consider "fun."
As far as my recent play-through of the campaign goes, I actually did pretty well for casual standards. I blew through all of the original Starcraft missions, although some of the Tassadar missions gave me a bit of trouble; I'm not good with Protoss or Terran and probably never will be. By that accord, the second campaign in Brood War was ridiculously difficult--I just despise playing Terran. I have no idea how I'm going to get through the Wings of Liberty campaign, haha.
Apart from typing up long introductory posts, I am a serious audiophile, as well as an equally-as-serious cinephile. Music and cinema are two things I could talk endlessly about, so here's to hoping you guys can be easily engaged in conversation relating to those two topics. In case you were wondering, I'm currently listening to High Violet by The National for the umpteenth time.
I spend way too much time making joke metalcore on garageband. I'm done.

Didn't realize this was here til earlier today...
Well, I'm coolswampert, I've been lurking here for about 2 months, starting post a couple of weeks ago, so I'm fairly new. I actually found this site while googling something related to sc2 (I don't remember what) and ended up spending the rest of the night reading through it.
I played starcraft and brood war as a kid in middle school, and spent most of my time playing LAN games with my friends, where we would sometimes get up to 8 players. I deeply respect Blizzard's original maps. I like custom maps, I dislike fastest maps, and I love taking over half the map in sc1.
I actually found a crack for sc2 (ssshhhh) over spring break, around the time the beta started. A couple of weeks afterward, I was lucky enough to be the first of my friends to receive a beta key. When GameStop started selling keys with preorders, some of my friends went and bought some, and then I recieved an email with 2 friend keys that I gave to 2 other friends. So including me, I know 9 people at school who play sc2. In fact, I spend most of my time in custom games with them. If I see you on battle.net, I will more than likely invite you to join a game with my friend and me.
So, add me (coolswampert.echs). My rankings may not be accurate because I don't play all that much quick matches, but I'm gold 1v1 and unranked 2v2. I like playing games, talking with players, reading through the SC:L forums, and playing with the map editor.
Good to be here!
