Thread: Idea for Terran -- Aerial Mines

Lightbulb Idea for Terran -- Aerial Mines

Essentially, they would function the same way as Spider Mines, the only differences being that they are anti-air and would cloak instead of burrow. They would be deployed by Ravens.

Um, no, just, no. Honestly, aerial mines aren't a good idea, they'll cost big, and won't really deliver, due to having to spend so much on flying and cloaking.

How about a hidden one shot SAM launcher? Should be a bit cheaper. I read that the Soviet Spetsnaz used such devices.

No way... one of the things that made Mines useful, is that you can use them in chokes, or strategic points. Air units can choose any path they want, easily avoiding the mines. Also, it's easy to have detection by the time you have air units.

True. However, the player tends to have them take somewhat predictable courses. Either he has them accompany his ground forces (in which case, the choke applies) or approach from one of the walls. Hence, as far as defenses are concerned, aerial mines could potentially work if they have a bigger activation radius.

I like it, although I think it would fit zerg better in terms of gameplay (not as good a fit design wise I guess, but you could have spore mines or something).
