500 pixels was great in the days of 640x480 and 800x600, but the average screen resolution since has increased quite a bit, with most people using 1280x1024 or higher. 800+ for width would be great. Remember, this is a site of gamers with gaming machines, not mum and dads viewing the Facebooks.

Also remember that many people hang out on these boards when they aren't using their massive gaming computers. And that's assuming everyone has a gaming computer, which is a silly assumption imo. That means that more and more people are using netbooks, cellphones, ultra-laptops etc... especially when it's just for browser navigation.

I know I'm running my SC2 on medium with a 12" laptop, and the max settings I've got are 1024/860. Anything higher wouldn't be useful at all anyways.
I've never been under the impression that the pics were too small ;) though they could be a notch larger and it wouldn't bother me.

If you use the browser zoom, it doesn't distort the images much

But yea, bigger images would be cool

Or at least give users the ability to turn re-sizing on or off, or set a max width for their own account.

I'm on 1680X1050 resolution and the size of the site is just fine. You could try changing the size of your browser window to better fit the site, it's that easy. There is no need to increase the size really since you can just adjust your browser window to whatever size you want.

The problem is that images are automatically resized to 500 pixel width max, despite your window size. See my screenshot above
