Legacy Weekly #21

Written by SaharaDrac  | Tuesday, 08 December 2009 21:43

Features - Legacy Weekly

We're all very happy that Blizzard loves Korea.  This allowed us to enjoy a ton of great new StarCraft II videos from the GStar event!  Every passing moment brings StarCraft II closer to reality, but it's still not here, so you can wet your whistle in the meantime with this week's...

The Legacy Weekly

SC:L Summary

The GStar gaming event took place in Korea recently, and SC:L has it covered.  You can read a summary of the events, as well as watch a slew of great new competitive StarCraft II videos from the event.  Thrill along with Nydus worm drops, as you quell your rising nausea form the inevitable shaky cam! I did it, and I'm a better man for it.  There's some really good Zerg gameplay, which may reinforce the idea that the game just needs a tiny bit more playtime before we start buffing races.

ArcherofAiur has posted a lovely write up for us, titled "Examing the Macro Mechanics".  It's a deeper, analytical look at a very hot subject in the StarCraft II community: the macro mechanics.  With the recent "announcement" that the Protoss will be getting a new macro mechanic, (Dustin Browder has been on record stating that the Protoss mechanic would be changed as far back as BlizzCon) it's good to bone up on some game design theory from this article before you go to the macro thread of your choice, armed with new knowledge and a dead-horse beating club.

Blizz News

The winners of the Vespene Laughs comic contest have been announced, and they are some bonafide yuk-yuks. I believe you're funny enough to win this contest.  Yes, you. So enter it this month, already!

There is also a thread up on the Bnet forums to vote for race matchups in future Battle Reports.  Maybe we can get a mirror match up to see how those look.  I voted for Klingons vs. Wood Elves, myself.

StarCraft II will be making it's appearance at the EPS Finals this month in Cologne, Germany.  Hopefully we can get some more gameplay videos from this event, and make a thread comparing Korean StarCraft alpha playstyles versus European StarCraft II Alpha playstyles! That sounds nice.

Our friends at Team Liquid have conducted an interview with StarCraft II's lead designer, Dustin Browder. It's a great read, and a very professionally done interview full of great information.  It does beg one question for me, though: with all these interviews, is Dustin now more of a PR person than a designer?  He seems to be the "face of StarCraft II" development these days, kind of a new-age John Romero, except making good video games. But I digress.

Blizzard posted an interview with their own Employee, Chris Sigaty, from the IgroMir gaming event.  Just in case you missed it, despite the questions being somewhat un-editorial, there is still good information on Bnet and various lore aspects, so take a gander.

Now for some delightful self-promotion.  I, Sahara "Nathaniel Hawthorne" Drac, have posted my submission to Short Story contest held by Blizzard.  Feel free to enjoy the grapes of my brain.

Thank you for your attention, we'll see you again for another edition of the Legacy Weekly.

The Legacy Weekly approves: purging the unclean.
