Legacy Weekly
Issue #7 - November 2007

w00t! We are back! After a month of absence the Legacy Weekly is now back!

You mean, the Legacy Occasionally? (hehe).

Max, you better shut up or I'll send you to visit the Queen of Blades again... Anyway, the Legacy Weekly team is now reinforced with a new office and new recruits. Say "Hi" all.

Yo! I am Gonzaga, the first and only intelligent Zergling in the sector. I have different roles in the Weekly - The Zerg Rush, expressing opinions about future Zerg updates, and humping James' leg.

An intelligent Zerg? In here?! I refuse to work with these terms. Besides, I think he is lacking a gender identity! Boo?! Argh! Get off my leg stupid Zerg!

It's either him or the mentally disordered Ultralisk we found outside. Your pick. Instead of whining, why don't you introduce yourself?

Oh well. I am James the Protoss from Shakuras. You can call me "the logical voice" in the Weekly with all these freaks around... Oh, and in case you've been wondering - James means in the Protoss language: "Noob-without-psi-haha".

LOL. Tough parents. What about you Max?

You people already know me. "SCV Community Scouting". Yeah, that's me. The black sheep of the crew. The man behind enemy lines. Each Weekly I'll gather funny and interesting news from the StarCraft community.

Me and Dauntless are happy that you work with us guys. Now that we all know each other, we can start covering news, and we had plenty of it in the time of our absence. Tag along, here we go!

During our absence we have missed four QA batches by Karune and other interesting posts made by him and Dustin Browder on the Battle.net forums. With the latest Q&A's we've got to know the new map editor, SCUMedit, a bit better. We now know that the max map size is still 256x256, creators can now lock maps, tilesets and terrains can be mixed, heroes with experience and items can be added to maps and so on. It seems like SCUMedit will be really powerful. Besides this Q&A, a lot of great info has surfaced the last month. Let me parse last months Q&A's and quotes by Karune and Cavez:

Aye caramba! You Protoss lack the swiftness of the Zerg.

...Do I look swift to you?

Not only do you lack swiftness, you're not even a Protoss! Just a mere robot. There's a reason you're not in the new game!

:'( Robots have feelings too. Well, who cares? I still have my Scarabs. Now on to something a bit more interesting; The Firebat changes! Another debated issue.

Certainly. The slaughterers of Zealots and Zerglings have been moved from the Barracks to the Factory. Some call it desecration of StarCraft lore, some call it necessary to keep balance in the game.

It's been the heaviest topic of discussion on the BlizzForums the last week, join the fun here:
*Parsing* [Discussion] FireBats from the Factory: Good or Bad??
*Hyperlink Device Shutdown*

Don't know about you guys, but I really like the changes and updates introduced in the last weeks (especially the Firebat and the Nomad's Auto-Turret). It seems most of our visitors here at SC:L also like the new Firebat (as the last poll implied).
As for "Blizzard Talks" updates, we added last week a new feature to SC:L, "The Battle.net Spider" (to the left of the page), where you can check out the three latest updates by Karune, Cavez and other Blizzard devs on the Battle.net forums. During the week we will also bring up an archive of all these quotes since the announcement of the StarCraft II.

*yawn*. Time for more interesting updates...

ZERG!

Stop misleading our readers Gonzaga! There was no Zerg on StarCraft2.com during these last weeks. What you have seen are the secret screenshots Boo holds on his desktop...

Wh- Daunt!? Ze- Zerg shots? Me? Are you crazy? err? I've never held any secrets from you or our fans. You speak nonsense!

But you told m-

MAX! I'll tell Dauntless to turn you into a Scarab! Shut up! >cough< Back to the updates... Something fresh for start - "The Story So Far". A new feature on the official website which describes the StarCraft story shortly. The first part covers the events of the original campaigns. There's nothing really special within the page, besides the following quote:
Quote:
A new executor, Artanis, was chosen and sent into battle, winning a crucial victory in the province of Antioch. Soon afterward Tassadar contacted Artanis and spoke of the battles upon Char, the discovery of the dark templar, and Zeratul's victory against the cerebrate.

WHAT? Does this possibly mean the
Executor in the original StarCraft is actually
Artanis?

And I thought you would know better of your history... Pfff... No it doesn't. The reason this was inserted was because Metzen said on BlizzCon that your characters in SC/BW that you played as never existed. So someone had to do what you did - they just inserted Artanis. Stupid Protoss! A Zergling knows better than you!
Anyway, The second update deals with these mysterious buildings introduced in the art gallery:

The community thinks these are Xel'naga buildings that will be featured in the single-player campaign. Who knows?

I do! They are Dark Templar buildings, not Xel'naga! Look at the color scheme, it matches Zeratul's ornaments color.

Maybe James, but nothing is 100% sure until the game is out.

On 2017.
The other news on the site were of course the units/buildings - The Protoss Observer and the Terran Sensor Tower. If you haven't checked their unit pages already go ahead!

The official discussion topic this month is the Terran Ghost. Its abilities (Snipe, Calldowns and EMP) and placement in the tech-tree have made it a lot more interesting than the expandable version of the original. You can discuss about the Ghost and raise your idea/opinions in our discussion thread.

I can't believe the Ghost suddenly has 100 HP, that's 40 more than me!

Well, 100 HP doesn't fix the Ghost. The only time I would think of using a Ghost would be versus Protoss. Snipe High Templars and EMP. That's about it, though. It still requires an aweful lot of teching too. Also, we still need to see how it works versus the Zerg.

It won't be good only against Zerg. It'll be good especially versus any caster unit.

A Tier 1.5-2 Ghost. Incredible. Finally a REAL support unit for the Terrans which is viable through all the game. The opponent is massing casters? Snipe. Protoss is massing Immortals? EMP. Want to harras a mineral-line? Drop-pods? Miss the cold-war? Nuke!

[Trying to snipe Boo]

Ok, enough. I'm going to end this discussion by saying this; Less theorycrafting. We need to play the game ourselves and try the Ghost to really know how it feels and works. Logic sense prevails!

Muwhahah! My own section! Out of reach from Boo's whims!

Can I be the loyal sidekick?

No! Shu! Where was I? Ah yes!
- The Mar Sara Campaigns! Our own Drake Clawfang has created two multi-part campaigns for Brood War. The campaigns tell the story of different Terran and Protoss characters in the time frame of Mar Sara's destruction.

- The second book in the Dark Templar Saga will debut in the coming week (November 27). Few weeks ago, BlizzPlanet had conducted an interview with the author of the book, Christie Golden.
From the Interview wrote:
Will we see Tassadar's memories within Zamara, the Preserver?
Christie: Yes. I'll continue using the motif of a friend of the great Protoss figure to show readers these very important Protoss in history. I'm really enjoying it, moreso than actually doing the point of view of Khas or…others.

Can I still be the sidekick?

Gah!

James, you're in charge of Art updates.

But I have no idea about art! Look at my drawing skills and be convinced!

LOL. A handicapped larva can draw better.

I like it. You're on it.

Doh! Where do I begin? Hmmm... Comics!

Good job! Although you forgot to mention that starting next issue we will have our own comic strip as well (featuring the adventures of SCV Max).

The Zerg Rush is back, and guess who is in charge! Ah! Before we see what we have for this week, lets check out the riddle from last month:
I was mentioned once at the four. My kind were featured in the lore. The future is unknown. The master says we are all gone. Necromancery was fun, but my subject had to run... Who am I?
Boo! It's me, right?

Errr... No Gonzaga, the correct answer is the Cerebrate Kaloth featured in Resurrection IV. Three people answered this riddle correctly: Jack Wimbish, areese87 and Tohron. You all win a-

Roasted Kakaru?

No. That was our reward last time you fool! You all win a chance to see our next riddle!

Lame. Oh well... Here it goes...
We like the cold, we like the winter
Are we a kind of critter?
If you kill a certain one of us, a Zerg will emerge.
Oh, please don't lock us in a cage...

That is all for the current issue. We hope you've enjoyed our new format. Remember, post feedback and idea within the news post on StarCraft Legacy or through the Private Messages system.
In the next issue the Weekly crew will invite the new members of the SC:L staff for a quick introduction.
Until then...
Special thanks to the Weekly artist, Stephen, for making this possible.
