Legacy Weekly
The StarCraft Legacy Weekly celebrates its 5th birthday! We are constantly trying to improve by changing the layout and adding new sections every issue. This week we bring you a massive SCV Community Scouting update and the promised discussion topic with the the man behind the wheel of StarCraft Legacy. These are of course along with the usual summary of everything that was StarCraft in the past week.

The 17th Q&A by Karune was a bit late this week, but the quality of the information presented compensates on the matter! Make sure to sign-in for the Battle.net forums and give a big "w00t" to the Devs. Meanwhile, check out the highlights of the Q&A:Karune wrote:
...The devs have changed the Terran Cobras abilities to take on what was previous known as the Protoss Stasis Orb (which is now removed from the game). The Terran Cobra now acts as a slowing unit, with an electrical attack. In addition, many of the units already seen in game are having their roles re-evaluated, to again make sure that every unit has a distinct role in StarCraft II.
Will the defensive matrix of the Terran Nomad apply to enemy units within its AoE (Area of Effect)? (www.starcraft2forum.org)
Yes, the Terran Nomads Defense Matrix ability will affect both friendly and enemy units, thus using this ability on a position that the player can hold will be wise.
What helps to delineate the Thor and Battlecruiser as both being high-tier support units? Lots of concern over this duality? (www.starcraft.org)
Currently, the Thor has splash damage, whereas the Battlecruiser has direct damage in its attack. We definitely agree with most of the community that the Thors role overlaps with various other roles on the Terran Faction, thus we may modify that role or possibly cut the unit.

In another
post, Karune announced for the first time a new interface function, "
Hold": Karune wrote:
There is currently a 'Hold' button which causes the unit to stop all actions it is currently doing (moving & attacking).
Unlike the classic "Hold-Position" which only prevented movement, this new button prevents units from attacking enemy forces within their attack range as well. This is a great feature for creating traps, and in case Lurkers are still in, Lurker Traps are given a new life.
The last post by
Karune this week regards the Terran Ghost. A Battle.net forum member
suggested that the Ghost should have more durability in combat, and
Karune replied with the following:Karune wrote:
A little more HP is nice, but what if we gave him an EMP burst ability?
Is this an implication for a replacement for Lockdown or just the usual "I'm evil and I like to play with your fragile minds"? Time will tell.
Wait. What?! There wasn't any update on StarCraft2.com this week!
UNTRUE!
Blizzard secretly updated the official StarCraft II website with a change for the Protoss Phase Prism and the mechanics of the Protoss Warp-In. Here are the changes as they appear on the the unit's page:
Quote:
The Phase Prism no longer deploys a "Psionic-Matrix" like the pylon does, but it is able to create portals everywhere on the map which can be used by allies and even enemies to cross long distances.
Blizzard also added a new flash video showing the new Protoss Warp-In mechanics. Behold:
We wonder how many of you actually went to StarCraft2.com to check whether this is real. Hehe.
Starting this week, we expand the Hot Discussion section as we promised before. Each week we will express our opinions on different matters and questions. LordOfAscension, the man behind StarCraft Legacy, joins us for this week's topic:
What is your favorite StarCraft II unit so far?
 | MasterBoo: Zerglings were my favorite StarCraft unit. Nothing is more appealing than a swarm of 3/3 Cracklings dropped in your enemy's base. Much to my disappointment, StarCraft II's winged Zerglings (!?!?) force me to choose a different favorite unit.
I love many of the StarCraft II units, especially those that can be used creatively in various situations, such as the Mothership's Timebomb, the new Nomad's Defense Matrix and the Templar's Statis Field. But my most favorite unit is neither of these. My favorite unit is the new Terran Cobra (dam dam dam!).
I know this is a very rare pick, but I really like the unit, I even like its Vulture like 3D model (>gasp< how could you!)
I liked the Cobra even before its latest change (check the Blizzard Talks section above in case you've missed it). The current, "slowing" version is even better. A player with a decent micro might be able to perform amazing moves, dancing around his opponents, shooting and slowing them, while other units take them off. The Cobra is my favorite unit (well, until Blizzard will start to announce Zerg units... ^^). |
 | Dauntless: A bit brain damaged are we, eh Boo? The COBRA?! Like the Medic says; "Need medical attention?".
My choice is the Protoss Stalker. I really like this new, agile, dark Dragoon. Dragoons were one of my favorite units in StarCraft I, so it doesn't exactly amaze me that I like the Stalker.
Dark Templar history has always appealed to me, and everyone got to admit; They are ubercool. The genius mix of them both makes this unit supermegahyperubercool... yeah... I like it! I like it so much, in fact, that it's my favorite unit in StarCraft II.
I know it's a bit weak, both in HP/Armor and firepower. But it has Blink! Blink is such an incredible ability. You can use it to chase, run away, scout, harass, and generally annoy the hell out of your opponent. Protoss players will praise the Stalkers and it's Blink! That's what I believe anyway.
So to wrap it up: Stalker. Dark Dragoon. Blink. Flawless victory! |
 | LordofAscension: Boo! The Cobra? ew. I have to admit I seriously disliked that unit when I played with it but the new abilities that are being implemented could change my mind easily.
As for my favorite unit? To begin I believe I need to set the record straight. Back in the day (insert "I've been doing this too long" joke here) when I was actually a good player, all I played was Protoss. The race is amazing. Since then I almost exclusively play Zerg. But in StarCraft II I'll be returning to my first love. My favorite three units StarCraft/Brood War are the High Templar, Carriers, and the Arbiter. The entire Protoss race has some distinct and great abilities implemented/planned for StarCraft II and a number of units have caught my attention.
First and foremost - the Carrier. Yes! Call me n00b, whine that the Carrier returned at the expense of the Tempest, but I love the Carrier. From a non-competetive gameplay and lore perspective the unit has no equal.
When I was at BlizzCon I made a point of discussing the Carrier and I'm glad that it is back. Hopefully it will be balanced properly and will retain its flagship/powerful designation. The new interceptor animations are great and I have high hopes that this unit will carry on its legacy.
The second unit I'm really excited for is the return of the High Templar (Templar?). While the unit hasn't been officially been announced (for undisclosed reasons) this unit has amazing potential and is in my mind probably the most strategically key support unit for the entire race. If Blizzard fixes the animation (from the BlizzCon showing) and doesn't nerf the Psi Storm I'll be thrilled.
The Warp Ray also has me begging for more. Their strategic importance will be quite evident as they bring down the enemy's most powerful units.
The Immortal is just plain fun to play with. Yeah they get raped by M&M but so what? Long have I awaited a great tank killer. Now the puny pink fleshlings will pay!
The Stalker probably dominated most of my play time at BlizzCon but I'd say Dauntless covered it pretty well.
If I had to chose one unit that I'm most excited for so far - I'd have to say the return of the Protoss race to its seat of dominance. Yes I cheated; when I get to play more I'll render my judgement. If you should manage to survive the first 10 minutes of my attack, my flagships will rule the skies and you shall weep. Oh and watch out - there's a Dark Templar behind you.
MasterBoo: Where? >hides<

The adventures of our SCV protagonist continue! This week we have sent our SCV for a different kind of mission...

 | StarCraft Legacy is proud to introduce another world exclusive! To the left you can see Zeratul holding one of the mysterious Xel'naga artifacts which ties the fate of all the Koprulu sector races together (this is of course, a lie). This week Blizzard has continued their routine of updating the fan art program page. The update consists of two humorous StarCraft pieces and another couple of amazing WoW art (WoW mentioned here?! TREACHERY!). |
You have all been very creative during this week. Nobody answered the last Rush correctly, but we have received lots of interesting estimations. As a reminder, here is the riddle:
It's all over now. Tell me - The last time, as tears go by... Time Is On My Side...
Nope. This is not about Raynor's love to Kerrigan, and neither implies at the Zerg Lurker "tearing apart" its victims (too creative, are we?). To help you solve the riddle we give you two clues:
- The fact that the riddle is composed of Rolling Stones' songs (as many of you discovered) does not help solving it at all.
- The riddle appears physically inside StarCraft. It was destroyed shortly after its appearance though.
Send your answers (and Raynor and Kerrigan love stories) to
